Shorrocks Named National Goalie of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The NJCAA National Office announced Wednesday the Men's Soccer Players of the Week for all matches played during Week 3 of the season – Sept 4-10, including Coastal Bend College's Matthew Shorrocks as  NJCAA Division I National Goalie of the Week.  Shorrocks as freshman from Wigan, England has started every game for the Cougars in-goal and has recorded 32 saves on 36 shots.

Most impressive for Shorrocks was his performance this past week when he held top ranked and defending NJCAA Division l National Champions, Tyler Junior College to a single point on Friday, 9/8/2017. Shorrocks saved seven of the eight Apachee shots. In doing so, he and the Cougars, snapped Tyler's 27 match win-streak.  The next day he posted a shutout versus Jacksonville College with seven saves in the Cougars 3-0 win, to cap a historic weekend.  

This award marks the first time a Coastal Bend College Men's Soccer player has been named National Player of the Week.

Shorrocks will lead the Cougars back on to the pitch this weekend when they host San Jacinto College on Friday at 4:00 pm and Angelina College on Sunday at 3:00 pm.  Both contests will be played on the Coastal Bend College campus field (located near Joe Hunter Field), admission is free and open to the public.  Stay tuned to www.cbcathletics.com for scores, stats and information on Shorrock, Men's Soccer, and all of the Cougar athletic teams.
