Cougars Battle Hard Against Jaguars

On Saturday January 6th, Coastal Bend hosted Jacksonville College. The Cougars went on to out score the Jaguars in the second half 35-32, but still not enough to beat the Jags. It was a big offensive day from Darias Whittington with 16 overall points. Not to mention another outstanding day from Samantha Atkinson-Roach with an impressive 19 overall points and 5 assists.  Also, a great defensive day from Taiya Dixon with 5 steals.

Although some Cougars shined with some big numbers, the team struggled as a unit in some big categories such as offensive rebounds and tremendously from the line. "We got beat on the offensive glass in the 1st and 3rd quarter with a total of 14 important points." Says Head Coach Nate Purswell. Only making 8 of 18 attempts at the free throw line, also with 14 second chance shots opportunities missed, was the clear difference in the games score. "Overall we had a pretty good day defensively but just have to execute at the line and with second chance shots." Said Coach Purswell. The final score was Coastal Bend College 63 to Jacksonville college's 75.

The Cougars will continue their season on the road January 10th in Brenham Tx, taking on the Blinn Buccaneers at 5:30 p.m.
