Beeville, Tx- Marcus Thompson has been named the Head Coach of the Men's Basketball program at Coastal Bend College. Following the departure from previous Head Coach, Carliss Robinson, who moved on to greener pastures at the NCAA Division II level (Salem University). Thompson had the luxury of learning the game of basketball at the NJCAA level under Robinson for a year. Robinson spent the past five seasons at Coastal Bend, four of those years were at the Head Coaching position.
 
Marcus Thompson is entering his first season as Head Coach of the Coastal Bend College Men's Basketball program. Thompson brings a defensive mind, along with player development, recruiting, game day operations, scouting, and academic enhancement.  The Garland native has previously been an assistant coach for the Cougars during the 2018-2019 campaign. Prior to CBC, coach Thompson was the head coach at the high school level, as well as the assisting with the UC Hoops - Adidas Gaunlet Program which includes: player development, practice planning, player recruitment, travel, scouting and marketing for the organization. 
 
Upon high school graduation, Thompson received a scholarship to Our Lady of The Lake University in San Antonio to continue his studies and basketball career. While at OLLU, Thompson earned Sixth Man of The Year Honors, as well as Red River All Conference  Scholar Athlete in 2012. To complete his 2012 campaign, Thompson was named to National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court. In 2013, Thompson would be named RRAC Scholar Athlete once more as well as Honorable Mention for the conference.  He also was named to the NABC Honors Court for the second time and made the Dean's List in 2013. In 2014, Thompson's senior year, he broke the collegiate record for steals in a game with 15 and led NAIA in steals per game with an average of 4.09. He was named to the RRAC Defensive Player of the Year and RRAC All Conference First Team. Thompson majored in Accounting and earned his Bachelors in 2014. Thompson also earned his earned his Master's degree in Business Management from OLLU in 2016.
