MCC Volleyball wins twice Friday in Texas matches

IRVING, Texas – The McCook Community College volleyball team won a pair of matches Friday to open play in the ThunderBlaze Classic at Dallas College North Lake.

MCC opened the day with a 3-0 win over Coastal Bend and followed that up with a 3-1 win against Southwestern Assemblies of God University JV.

The tournament continues Saturday as MCC plays Amarillo College at 12:15 p.m. and the hosts North Lake at 2:30 p.m.

McCook CC 3, Coastal Bend 0:  MCC downed the Cougars 25-16, 29-27, 25-21.

Gabby Caskey (freshman, Ogallala) paced the MCC hitting attack with 12 kills and two assist blocks. She also had 18 digs.

Makayla Brown (sophomore, Colorado Springs) added eight kills, two assist blocks and four digs. Victoria Thomas (sophomore, Houston, Texas) was credited with six kills, eight digs and one assist block.

Jisell Chumacero (sophomore, Eaton, Colo.) Jisell had three kills from the middle with one assist block. Gracen Tuttle (freshman, Ogallala) was credited with two kills and two assist blocks along with a solo block. A'Dasia Porter (sophomore transfer, Glendale, Ariz.) had two assist blocks. Glorya Carr (freshman, Hugo, Colo.) had two assists and an assist block.

Alexis Pontine (freshman, Ignacio, Colo.) led the passing attack with 32 assists to go along with four kills and one ace.

McKenna Crews (sophomore, Loveland, Colo.) came up with 17 digs and three aces. Greta Bolognini (freshman, Bergamo Italy/ Parkview Christian, Lincoln, Neb.) had 12 digs and an ace.

McCook CC 3, SWAGU JV 1:  After winning the first two sets 25-22, 25-16, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University JV Lions pulled out the third set 30-28 but MCC came back to close out the match in four sets 25-21.

Victoria Thomas led the hitting with 16 kills, three assist blocks and had 16 digs. Makayla Brown had nine kills. Fernanda Merancio (freshman, Lamar, Colo.) chipped in with eight kills, 10 digs and three assist blocks. Gabby Caskey had five kills, nine digs and five aces.

Jisell Chumacero came up with three assist blocks, two kills and two aces. Gracen Tuttle had a kill and an assist block, and A'Dasia Porter also added a kill and an assist block.

McKenna Crews paced MCC with 18 digs to go along with five aces from the service line. Greta Bolognini had two aces.

Jessie Jerome (freshman, Rawlins, Wyo.) led MCC with 42 assists to go with 13 digs, two solo blocks, one assist block and one ace.
