Cougars Sweep Season Series

On Tuesday afternoon, February 20th the Coastal Bend College Baseball Team traveled to Laredo, TX for a Double Header against the Palominos of Laredo Community College. Marco Becerrill started game one against Laredo Community College on Tuesday afternoon.  

The scoring starting in the third inning for the Cougars, with a solo Homerun from Kyler Bumstead. The next batter, Mitchell Sexton hit a double and would end up scoring off a push bunt error from Joel Rodriguez to put Coastal Bend up two to zero over Laredo.  

In the fifth inning, Josh Burnett lead off the inning by a HBP. He would later score off a RBI groundout from Bo GonzalesBecerrill threw a complete game shutout while working quickly and efficiently from the mound with 77 pitches on the game.  

The Cougars won the baseball game four to zero. 

 

Michael Dinsdale got the start for the second game of the double header versus Laredo Community College. Dinsdale would pitch five and a third of an inning for the Cougars, giving up five runs. 

The Cougars would open up the scoring in the first inning with a two out single from Jordan GochenourGonzales would then bring him in with a homerun to put Coastal Bend up two to zero. Laredo would answer back quickly with two unearned runs of their own, in the bottom of the first inning to tie the ball game. The Cougars didn't get any run support in the second inning, but the Palominos managed to add another two runs to their lead.  

Moving on to the fourth inning, Coastal Bend added a run off of Adrian Pena's RBI groundout. Laredo would answer back with one run of their own to go up five to three. After giving up one run in the inning, Jacob Williamson entered the game with one out in the fourth inning, limiting the damage. In the top of the fifth, the Cougars scored two runs to tie the game at five, with an RBI Walk by Gonzales and a SAC Fly from Ruben Sepulveda 

Moving forward to the bottom of the sixth inning, Williamson was able to get to Palominos out quickly, before giving up a walk and a hit. Jared Irvine then entered the game for the Cougars, as he would look to keep the game close for Coastal Bend. Irvine would walk his first batter and give up two straight singles as the Palominos added three runs to make the score, five to eight. Tyler Dick entered the game to relieve Irvine in the bottom of the sixth inning, retiring the last batter with a spectacular play by Rodriguez out in left center field that stopped the bleeding. Down three runs in the top of the seventh inning, Gochenour would lead things off for the Cougars with a single to left field. The next two hitters for Coastal Bend would fly out, brining Dick to the plate with two outs. Dick would single, moving Gochenour to second base. Pena would get HBP to load the bases for BumsteadBumstead would crush a pitch to left field on a full count, two Grand Slam to put the Cougars up nine to eight. Dick would close out the game, earning the win for Coastal Bend, going three up and three down to end the game.  

The Cougars sweep the season series four games to none and are currently eight and nine on the season.
