Pair of Cougars Shine in Power Showcase All-Star Game

In an event that was billed as a power hitters showcase a pair of Coastal Bend College Cougars showed that pitching - especially their pitching - could slow down even the most potent of offenses.  Lefty first-baseman/pitcher Rebun Sepulveda and righthanded pitcher Marco Becerril were invited to the 2018 International Power Showcase held this week at Marlins Stadium in Miami, Florida.

The International Power Showcase affords invited participants ranging from players as young as 12 to collegiate players representing two-year, NAIA, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and International colleges to showcase their talents in front of scouts from the professional and four-year school levels.  The players participated in various home-run derbies using wood and composite bats, before eventually participating in age appropriate, select all-star games.

Sepulveda and Becerril played for the American League in the College Select All-Stars.  They represented themselves and Coastal Bend College extremely well.  Becerril, the sophomore First-Team All-American pitched four innings, collecting four strikeouts and giving up one run.  Sepulveda picked up the win on the mound throwing three scoreless inning with three strikeouts, while going 1-3 from the plate including a late inning single that allowed him to be the winning run as the American League came back to the defeat the National League 8-5.

Their performance against some of the games best bodes well when they lead the 2019 Cougars to the field to open their season versus Brookhaven College at Joe Hunter Field on Friday, January 25th at 7:00 pm.
