Pioneers Beat Cougars at Joe Hunter Field

Beeville, Tx-  On Tuesday, January 29th, Coastal Bend Baseball hosted Wharton County Junior College for a nine inning ball game. The Cougars had just come off a three game series in which they hosted the #6 ranked Brookhaven Bears. CBC went on to sweep the Bears during their season opening homestand. 

Coastal Bend's Michale Dinsdale would start on the hill for the Cougars. The Pioneers would score two runs in the first inning against CBC. During the third inning, the Pioneers would increase their lead by four runs to lead the Cougars, 6-0 . Dinsdale went Two and Two Thirds of an inning, allowing six hits, six earned runs, and two walks. Left Handed Pitcher, Nolan Cox entered the game to relieve Dinsdale in the Top of the third inning. Cox pitched shutout baseball recording three scoreless frames and two strikeouts.
 
The Cougars were finally able to get some runs on the board when Third Baseman, Bo Gonzales hit a 2 run Home Run that scored First Baseman, Ruben Sepulveda who drew a Walk. Clay Glover came into the game to relieve Cox during the seventh inning. Left Handed Pitcher, Josh Mendez saw action on the bump when he entered the game to relieve Glover. Coastal Bend was able to cut down the 6-2 deficit in the eighth inning when Left Fielder, Kyle McShaffry was able to score a run off a Double from Catcher, Cooper Coe. The Cougars had a Two out rally going, but a strikeout left runners on base.
 
Staying with Left Handed Pitchers, CBC entered Devin Aguado in the Top of the ninth inning. Aguado allowed one Pioneer run to score before striking out a batter to end the Top half of the ninth. WCJC increased their lead 7-3 headed to the Bottom of the ninth. JB Trees would reach first base off a lead-off Single for CBC. Facing one out, Left Fielder, Kyler Bumstead drew a Walk. Sepulveda would enter the batter's box and hit an RBI groundout that would score Trees from second base. WCJC 7, CBC 4.  Gonzales then came up to bat for CBC & drew a Walk; Bumstead would advance to third base following a passed ball. McShaffry would be next to bat with runners on the corners for CBC. McShaffry drew a full count, but went down on strikes to end the ball game. Final score would be 7-4 in favor of the Pioneers. 

Gonzales finished the game with two RBI's while going one for three on the day with a Home Run and two Walks. Sepulveda scored one run while collecting a RBI and a Walk. Trees also scored a run while going two for three during his plate appearances along with a Walk. Coe went two for four in the game hitting a Single and a Double.

The Cougars will host Murray State College on Friday, February 1st at 6:00 PM. Saturday, February 2nd, CBC will play Murray State College at 12:00 PM and San Jacinto College at 6:00 PM at Joe Hunter Field.
