Cougars Beat Pioneers In Extras

Wharton, Tx- Coastal Bend Baseball was originally scheduled to play against the Pioneers of Wharton County Junior College on Monday, March 4th, but the Texas weather had other plans. Instead, the Cougars and Pioneers moved the nine inning game to Tuesday, March 5th. 

Coastal Bend would strike first in the Top of the Third inning by scoring two runs. It was not until the Bottom of the Fifth inning when WCJC was able to get on the board. The Pioneers took a 3-2 lead heading into the Top of the Sixth. After a scoreless frame for CBC, Wharton increased their lead by adding one run to lead, 4-2. 

In the Top of the Seventh inning, Coastal Bend exploded for six runs to lead, 8-4 after seven innings of play. Moving on to the Bottom of the Eighth inning, the Pioneers would tie the ball game up by scoring four runs.

Following a scoreless ninth inning, the game would head to extra innings. Both the tenth and eleventh innings would be scoreless by both clubs. In the Top of the 12th inning, CBC would take the lead, 9-8 heading into the Bottom of the 12th inning. Closer, Trent Sholders would end the game for the Pioneers, earning his Fifth Save of the season. 

Starting Pitcher, Marco Becerril pitched six strong innings for the Cougars, allowing five hits and three earned runs to go with his three strikeouts. Relief Pitcher, Mason Foster entered the ball game in the Seventh inning. Luis Martinez saw action on the bump when he came into the game in the Eighth inning, pitching four solid innings. Martinez scattered five hits, allowed only one earned run while striking out three batters. Sholders wrapped up the game by allowing only one hit and one strikeout for his performance. Martinez would be credited with his second win of the season for Coastal Bend.

CBC Left Fielder, Bo Gonzales went three for five on the day with a Grand Slam. First Baseman, Kyle McShaffry went four for five at the dish with a Solo Home Run. Pitcher, Marco Becerril batted for himself, going four of five at the plate with Solo Home Run and collecting three RBI's. Shortstop, JB Trees batted three of six on the day with a Double and a Solo Home Run. CBC Center Fielder, Kody Kolb went three of seven during his batting appearances, hitting two Doubles. 

The victory moved the club to 9-12 on the season.
