Bossier Parish Community College
January 8th, Coastal Bend College traveled to Bossier City, Louisiana for a Conference game on Monday afternoon, against Bossier Parish Community College. The Cougars would start the contest off slowly while the Cavaliers gained momentum along with creating scoring gap. Big contributions from Nicholas Clark who nailed two, quick three pointers and Kenneth Brown adding six point off the bench helped spark Coastal Bend and allowed them keep the game close headed into halftime. The Cougars cut down their first half deficit to seven points, as they trailed 37-44 at intermission.
Malik Amos, Dajuan Madden and Rashon Thomas all picked up the scoring during the second half for Coastal Bend. The hard fought battle between the Cavaliers and Cougars would get narrowed down to a three point game in the final minutes of regulation, but poor execution on both sides of the court would end up hurting Cougars chances of winning the game. Bossier Parish maintained the lead of the tightly contest, beating Coastal Bend of a final score 76-83. Amos finished the game with 20 points, while Madden added 12 points and Thomas contributed 10 points to the scoring column. Bernard Randle also added nine points from the bench by making three of his four attempts from beyond the arc.
Kilgore College
On January 10th, The Region XIV Conference matchup between Kilgore College on Wednesday night started out rough for Coastal Bend. The Cougars could not put a bucket up within the first four minutes of the contest. CBC dug themselves a 14 to 0 hole but went on a 14-15 run of their own in the next eight minutes of game play. The Rangers would then finish up the first half with a 12-5 scoring output to wrap up the score being 29-19 at intermission.
During the start of the second half, the Cougars came out with a strong run to climb out of the 10 point deficit. Kilgore would not let the Coastal Bend run which affected them as they regained momentum of the game and went up by 12 points. The Cougars were able to regroup and slowly chip away to the Rangers lead with the help from Malik Amos, Rashon Thomas, Nicholas Clark and Dajuan Madden. Unfortunately, the shots didn't fall for Coastal Bend along with some defensive lapses sustained the Cougars from winning the ball game. The final score to the contest was 64-73, Kilgore College.
Amos finished with a team high 15 points, followed up by Thomas who added 14 to go with his team high four assists and three steals. Clark also contributed with 14 points. Madden scored 11 points in the game, while adding five rebounds and three assists to his stat line.
Carliss Robinson, CBC Men's Head Basketball Coach stated "Slow starts have been the downfall these past two games for us. We need to do a better job as a team scoring the ball in the beginning of the games. Our defense and hustle, along with togetherness has allowed us to stay in these games and has been a constant backbone for this team, all season."
Coastal Bend suffered their first home loss of the season on Wednesday, putting their record to seven wins with six losses on the season and a current record of two wins and four losses in Region XIV Conference play. CBC's next basketball game will be against Tyler Junior College on Saturday, January 13th for a conference game. Tip-off is set for 4:00 PM.
