Bulldogs Best Cougars at Home

Beeville, Tx- For the first time in nearly a month, Coastal Bend men's basketball would find themselves playing in a basketball game, due to the holiday break. The Cougars resumed play on Saturday, January 4th against Region XIV conference foe, Navarro College. 

CBC would start off the game relatively slow in the openinig minutes of play, but the Cougars would string together a run of 11 straight points. Navarro would fight their way back into the game with CBC holding on to a 17-15 lead at the 11:43 minute mark. The Bulldogs would shoot the ball better than the Cougars in the first half, taking an 48-37 lead into the break.

The shots would not fall for Coastal Bend in the second half, as the team would compile a 35.9 shooting percentage from the field, while Navarro College hit 28 shots out of their 53 attempts from the field, equating to 52.8  percent. CBC found themselves in a 20 point deficit in the second half of the contest at one point, but continued to fight hard on the defensive end of the floor, cutting the margin to 11 points. The Bulldogs regrouped after a timeout with four minutes remaining to end up defeating the Cougars by a final score of 85-71. 

Guard, Gerald Thomas lead the Cougars in scoring with 12 points. Point Guard, Brian Payton poured in 11 points while dishing out a team high seven assists and nabbing two steals for his stat line. Guard, Royce Hunter scored 11 points while recording four assists on the game. Forward, Peyton Hardin added 10 points to contribute in scoring for CBC and pulled down seven rebounds. Charles Callier also chipped in 10 points for the Cougars. 

The Cougars will travel to Tyler, Tx for a Region XIV Conference game with Tyler Junior College at 4:00 PM on Monday, January 7th.
