Four Cougars Receive Region XIV Honors

The Region XIV men's basketball committee released the postseason honors for the 2022-2023 season in which Coastal Bend College's sophomore wing, Breion Powell, was awarded First Team All Region and First Team All Conference South honors. Both accolades come as the school's first in their history. Breion played in and started all 31 games for the Cougars this season leading the club with 14.7 points per game and scoring in double digits in 24 of those contests. His season high came against conference opponent Angelina with 27. Breion also averaged 7 rebounds per game, and shot 50 percent from the field for the year.

 

Freshman Forward, Willie Williams, was awarded 2nd Team All Conference South honors. Willie played in 31 games for the Cougars this season leading the team in Rebounds. Williams' team leading 8.6 rebounds placed him 2nd in the conference. The phenomenal Freshman also registered a team high 9 double doubles this season. His best game of the year came against Temple College with a 19 point 14 rebound outing. Willie also averaged 10 points per game on 52 percent shooting from the field along with 3 assists per contest.    

 

Sophomore guard, Malik Nash, was awarded 2nd Team All Conference South honors. Malik played in all 31 games this season registering double digits in 23 of those contests. Malik finished the year as the team's second leading scorer averaging 13 points per game to go with his team leading 5 assists. Nash's 147 assists placed him 3rd in the conference for the season. Malik's standout performance came in a win against number 8 ranked Lee College with 14 point 10 assists. Nash also averaged 4 rebounds a game on the year.   

 

Freshman guard, Peter McKey, was awarded Honor Mention All Conference South honors. McKey played in 30 games this season registering double digits in 17 of those contests. Peter finished the year 3rd on the team in scoring, averaging 11 points a game on 33 percent from the 3 point line. The up and coming freshman had a team high scoring outage against Blinn College with a 31 point performance with 24 coming from beyond the 3 point line. Peter also averaged 3 rebounds and 2 assists per game.
