Cougar Sophomores Sign with Shorter and St. Thomas

Both members of the Coastal Bend College sophomore class recently signed National Letters of Intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at the next level.  Right full back, Luke Wheeldon and Goalkeeper, Josh Womack are moving on to Shorter University and St. Thomas University, respectively.

Wheeldon, from Hull, England, signed with the Hawks of Shorter University a NCAA Division II school (Gulf South Conference) in Rome, Georgia. Wheeldon served as a captain for the Cougars this season, he played in all 16 of CBC's games, recording four assists; but defense and leadership were where Wheeldon truly made his mark.

Coach Brian Byrd on Wheeldon:  "Luke is a player that came to Coastal Bend College and made a immediate impact from day one. Luke stepped in the starting position at right back and never looked back in his two-year career.   Luke's fiery play and temper led him to not only help lead CBC to 29 wins over his two-years but as a right-back be respected as one of the best in Region XIV."

Womack, from Sheffield, England, signed with the Bobcats of St. Thomas University a NAIA program (Florida Sun Conference) in Miami Gardens, Florida.  Womack started five games between the pipes for the Cougars going 4-1, recording one shut-out.

Coach Byrd on Womack:  "Josh is a fine, outstanding, young man! His work ethic on the field and in the classroom is contagious.  As captain of our soccer team Josh showed true leadership skills in all aspects of what a captain should possess.  His relentless work ethic as a goalkeeper affected every player's performance on the field. Josh also excelled in the classroom and his rapport with his professors was spoken about very highly throughout our campus."

The Cougars finished the 2017 season 12-7, reaching the Region XIV Semi-Finals for the second straight season.
