CBC Beats LCC 1-0 In Opener

Beeville, TX-  Friday, August 30th marked the first official match of the season for Coastal Bend Soccer. For their first match, CBC would face a familiar foe, the Laredo Community College Palominos. 

Both soccer clubs split their two matches against one another during the 2018 season. CBC edged out a victory during the first encounter, 2-1. The Palominos however, came back for vengeance, beating the Cougars, 8-3 to even up the Region XIV Conference series.

Fast forward to the 2019 season, Coastal Bend prepared themselves for the gauntlet of Region XIV during the pre-season with three scrimmages against; Richland College, Schriener University, and Alamo City Soccer Club. The match between CBC and LCC marked the first meeting between the conference foes, as they began conference play.

During the first half of the match, both teams fought hard in the grueling South Texas heat, but neither team was able to score a goal in the first 45 minutes. The Palominos and Cougars had their fair share of opportunities at the goal, but came up empty handed.

Following intermission, the game's level of intensity picked up on the field as both clubs exchanged two yellow cards. In the 70th minute of the contest, Coastal Bend's Center Attacking Midfielder, Gabriel Campora capitalized on a red card.  Campora broke the scoreless tie with a Penalty Kick to put Coastal Bend up, 1-0. 

For the remaining time of the match, Coastal Bend continued to play stifling defense against LCC, shutting them out for a 1-0 victory. CBC Goalkeeper, Zachariah Simpson completed the match with a shutout, Saving all five shots on goal. 

Coastal Bend Soccer will continue their home stand, with two matches on Friday, 9/6/2019 and Saturday, 9/7/2019 against Paris Junior College and Northeast Texas Community College, respectively.
