CBC Soccer Goes .500 On The Weekend

Paris, Tx- The Coastal Bend College soccer team traveled to the northern part of Texas this past week as part of their Region XIV Conference Matches. CBC aimed to get back in the win column, after losing back to back matches against Angelina College and Blinn College back on September 20th and 21st, respectively.

The Cougars would face Paris Junior College for the first match of the weekend. A month earlier, both clubs faced one another in Beeville, as Coastal Bend would come out victorious in a double overtime match, winning in the last minute of play, 1-0.

In the first half of play, it would be another dogfight between the Cougars and Dragons. PJC would draw first blood with a goal in the 17th minute. Moments late, CBC would respond with a game tying goal from Lucas Paixao. Sol Goodby would be credited with the assist. The first half of the match ended up being tied up, 1-1.

Early in the second half, the Cougars took a 2-1 lead off the foot of Julian Colchado in the 54th minute. For the remainder of the match, both teams battled for position and momentum, but CBC's defense was too much for the Dragons. Colchado's unassisted goal ended up being the game winning goal to propel Coastal Bend to victory.

The Cougars improved their records to 4-4 in both overall and conference standings with the win over Paris Junior College.

Mount Pleasant, Tx-  On Saturday, October 5th, CBC faced Northeast Texas Community College. This would mark the second meeting between both schools this season. In the first match between the Cougars and then ranked, #11 Eagles, the visiting Eagles would narrowly escape Beeville with a 1-0 victory.

Fresh off a victory from Paris Junior College, the Cougars would face another tough opponent in, NTCC. Coastal Bend would have their hands full facing the Eagles who recently had been ranked among the top school in the nation.

The first half did not start out well for CBC. Northeast Texas immediatley jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first minute of play. For the remainder of the half, Coastal Bend defended NTCC well, until a defensive collapse occurred right before half. The Eagles would lead the Cougars 2-0 at intermission.

In the second half of the match, CBC continued to play hard and fight for creative looks on the offensive side of the field, but could not net a goal. The Eagles would score another goal in the 87th minute to beat the Cougars, 3-0.

The Cougars currently hold a record of 4-5 in conference and for the season. Coastal Bend's next match will be in Jacksonville, Tx as they will play them at 3:00 PM on Friday, October 11th.
