Applewhaithe and Perez Named to All-Region XIV Teams

Beeville, TX–  Coastal Bend College has two athletes named to the 2022 All-Region 14 Men's Soccer Team: sophomore defender Andre Applewaithe on the first team and sophomore forward Ivan Perez on the second team.

Applewaithe had three goals and two assists for his sophomore campaign. The Defender from Barbados was a terror on the back end for the Cougars all season with his relentless effort and blazing speed.

Perez finished the season with nine goals and four assists for the Cougars. The sophomore from Spain was also nominated for NJCAA National Offensive Player of the Week (October 10 - 16) whenever he netted five goals during his performance against Region XIV foe, Trinity Valley Community College. Perez had a total of nine shots, seven of which were shots on goal. He also accumulated two assists in the 17-1 victory.

Head coach Stephen Cummins says that it is a well-deserved honor for both players. He believes Applehaithe is a fantastic all-around talent. We wish him all the best in making it in Europe this spring.

"In my opinion, Andre is the best player in the Region 14 Conference," Cummins said.

"His defensive abilities are impressive, but he is also one of the best attackers in our conference. He makes us a better team by reading the game both offensively and defensively. Andre brings a lot of energy to practice and is passionate about soccer."

Cummins believes Perez is a special talent who was underappreciated as a second-team selection.

"The Region 14 has some outstanding forwards, but I believe Ivan should have made the first team. I enjoy watching him play because he is such a creative player who scores from nowhere. Another player who genuinely enjoys the game and brings a positive attitude to practice, "Cummins explained.
