Softball Sweeps Alvin; Sets New Program Wins Record

It took a couple of games longer than anticipated; but today with a 5-3 road win over Alvin College, Cougar Softball captured its 14th win of the season.  That win marked a new record in wins in a single season for Coastal Bend College.  The Cougars then followed the game one win, with 2-0 shutout, to move their record back over .500 at 15-14.

In Game One the Cougars went with their ace Lydia Clarke who earned her ninth win of the season.  The five Cougar runs were in a large part thanks to the offensive work of Jamie Morales who was perfect from the plate going three for three; and Kathrina Rangel who added two more RBI's to her team leading 16 so far this season.

Game two saw the Cougars play a perfect defensive game committing no errors and helping freshman Alexis Valdez record her third win of the season and her first collegiate shutout.  The offensive highlight of the game came when pinch hitter Kathy Gauna ripped a pitch for an RBI single to secure win number 15 for the Columbia and Navy.

CBC won't have much time to celebrate, as they pack their bags and drive down I-45 to take on Galveston College tomorrow at 1:00 and 3:00 pm.
