Cougars Win 3 Out of 4 In Weekend Home Stand

Beeville, Tx- On Friday, March 22nd, Coastal Bend College Softball hosted Alvin Community College for a Region XIV Conference double header. The CBC coaching staff decided to go with Kirstyn Gomez in the circle for game one.

The First inning, Gomez and company retired the Dolphins in order. Coastal Bend would take a one run lead in the Bottom of the First. In the Bottom of the Second inning, CBC would add another run, to lead 2-0. 

During the Top of the Third inning, ACC would take the lead by scoring four runs on CBC. Moving ahead in the game, the Cougars would cut the two run deficit in half with another run.

In the Top of the Fifth inning, the Dolphins would score another to take a 5-3 lead. CBC was held scoreless in the Bottom of the Fifth and Sixth innings, even though they threatened to score.

Down by two runs in the Bottom of the Seventh inning, Coastal Bend would tie the game up at Five with a Single from Center Fielder, Vanessa Garces, scoring Felicity Mata

Next up for the Cougars would be Third Baseman, Emily Michki. Michki would end up winning the game by hitting a two run Home Run over the Left Field fence to put CBC over ACC, 7-5.

For her outing, Gomez pitched a complete game, going seven innings, scattering 6 hits, while allowing two earned runs. 

Coastal Bend Right Fielder, Avery Hearn batted .500 for the game, hitting a Single and a Solo Home Run. Garces went three for five, falling a Home Run short of the cycle. Michki produced four hits in five at bats, as she recorded three RBI's on the game. 


For game two, Amanada Aguirre would be named the starting pitcher for Coastal Bend. 

The Dolphins came out swinging in the Top of the First inning, scoring four runs. CBC would score one run in the Bottom half of the inning to trail, 4-1.

In the Top of the Second inning, ACC scored another run to lead, 5-1. The next score in the ball game would not occur until the Top of the Fourth inning when the Fins hung up five runs for the frame. 

Leading 10-1, the Cougars were able to close the margin a bit in the Bottom of the Fifth inning by having two runners cross the plate. 

Heading into the Bottom of the Seventh inning, the score would still be in favor of ACC, 10-3. The Cougars would rally with three runs. First, Right Fielder, Avery Hearn would hit a two RBI Double to Center Field followed by Catcher, Brianna McKeel hitting an RBI Single to Right Field to score Hearn from Second base. CBC would load the bases with two outs. Unfortunately the rally would come up short, as the Cougars went down on strikes, 10-6.

Aguirre pitched three complete innings, surrendering seven hits, nine runs and recording one strike out. Kirstyn Gomez entered the game in the Fourth inning to relieve Aguirre. Gomez allowed four hits, one earned run, while striking out three batters.

Third Baseman, Emily Michki batted .750 for the game, hitting a Single, Double and Home Run for three RBI's. 

The Dolphins and Cougars ended up splitting the two game series.


Next up on the slate, Coastal Bend would face conference foe, Galveston College. 

Amanda Aguirre would be the starting pitcher for CBC. Aguirre would spin a gem for the Cougars, shutting out the Whitecaps. The Lefty pitched seven complete innings, spreading out seven hits, while striking out seven batters. Aguirre also only walked one batter.

For most of the game, both teams would find minimal success at the plate. Fortunately, for Coastal Bend, they scored three runs in the bottom of the Fourth inning. Catcher, Brianna McKeel would score a run from Left Fielder, Britney Garcia's Single. Garcia would also cross the plate as would Center Fielder, Vanessa Garces

The remainder of the game would be scoreless, with the Cougars prevailing, 3-0 for game one. 


In the final game of the double header versus the Whitecaps, Coastal Bend would get on the scoreboard early.

The Cougars started off the scoring in the Bottom of the First inning by scoring one run. In the next half inning, Galveston would tie the game up at one a piece. 

During the Bottom half of the Second inning, CBC scored three runs to take a 4-1 lead.  After a scoreless third inning frame for the Whitecaps, the Cougars would ring up five runs in the Bottom of the inning to go up, 9-1. 

Galveston College would not be able to score for the rest of the game, as they would get run-ruled in the Bottom of the Fifth inning, 9-1. 

Coastal Bend ended up sweeping the two game series from the Whitecaps to win three of four games on the weekend. The Cougars improve to 18-15 overall and 3-5 in conference play. CBC will travel to Pasadena, Tx on Saturday, March 30th for a conference double header with Lamar State College - Port Arthur. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
