Cougars Fall to Apaches and Cavs at Regional Tournament

Lufkin, Tx-     On Monday, May 13th  Coastal Bend Softball had a rough outing vs Tyler Junior College in the opening round of the Region XIV Tournament. The Cougars ended up losing 9-0 to the Apaches.

Kirstyn Gomez started the game in the circle CBC. Gomez allowed five hits and five runs over two and a third innings, striking out one batter. Amanda Aguirre threw two and two-thirds innings in relief.

In the Top of Third inning, Madysen Parker hit a Double for Coastal Bend. Center Fielder, Vanessa Garces and Parker collected the only hits for the Cougars. CBC committed three errors on the day

 TJC recorded 10 hits in the game.  The Apaches didn't commit a single error on the field during the game. 

Following the loss to Tyler, Coastal Bend would fall into the Loser's Bracket for the Region XIV Softball Tournament. Next up for the Cougars, they would square off against Bossier City Parish Community College. The game would take place at High Noon on Tuesday, May 14th at Larry Phillips Family Sports Complex on the Angelina College campus.


Game Two 

  Coastal Bend would face a familiar foe, in Bossier Parish Community College on Tuesday, May 14th. As the Cougars and the Cavaliers from Bossier Parish duked it out in an elimination game, Coastal Bend showed plenty of fight, heart and grit throughout the battle vs the Cavaliers.

CBC jumped out to a four run lead in the Bottom of the First inning. Coastal Bend's, Madysen Parker took a pitch deep for a Three Run Homer during the four run inning.

In the Top of the Third inning, the Cavs crossed the plate three times to cut into the Cougar lead. CBC added a run in the Bottom of the Third to lead, 5-3.

Bossier Parish trimmed the Coastal Bend lead to one run in the Top of the Fourth inning.

After hold CBC scoreless in the Bottom half of the inning, the Cougars returned the favor in the Top of the Fifth. Coastal Bend then increased their lead, 6-4 in the Bottom of the Fifth.

The Cougars two run lead would be short lived as the Cavs scored two runs in the Top of the Sixth to tie the ball game up at six. In the Bottom of the Sixth, Bossier Parish kept Coastal Bend off the scoreboard to leave the game tied, 6-6 heading into the Seventh.

The Cavs could not be stopped in the next frame as they scored five runs to lead the Cougars, 11-6. Coastal Bend continued to play hard until the last out, but it would not be enough as Bossier Parish late inning scoring would push them into the next round.

Amanda Aguirre toed the rubber for the Cougars. Aguirre gave up four runs on seven hits over four innings, striking out one batter for her performance. Kirstyn Gomez threw three innings in relief. Gomez surrendered seven earned runs on seven hits while walking two batters and striking out one.

Coastal Bend scattered 11 hits during the contest. Parker, Britney Garcia, and Felicity Mata each collected multiple hits, while Ashley Soto and Kirstie Soto both hit Doubles for CBC. Parker led Coastal Bend with three hits during four appearances at the plate. Avery Hearn and Garcia each recorded an RBI on the day, with Parker collecting three RBI's.


CBC Softball concludes their season at the Region XIV Tournament with a record of 26-24 on the year, marking the first winning season in Coastal Bend College Women's sports history. The Cougars also won 11 conference games this season, the most in any season. Coastal Bend also made postseason play for the second time in as many years, another first for the program.
