Nine Cougar Softballers Move On To The Four-Year Level

Beeville, Tx-  Coastal Bend Pitchers, Tessa Ramirez, Isabella Gutierrez and Neesa Poncio will all study and play at the next level. Cougar Infielders, Yadira Lopez, Alana Benitez and Catcher, Harley Escamilla will all follow suit. Outfielders, Ashley Patterson, Grace Martinez have signed their National Letters of Intent to their respective universities. Designated Player, Makayla Wesley also accepted an offer to play at the four-year level.  

Coastal Bend Ace Pitcher, Tessa Ramirez pitched a total 149 innings for the 2022 campaign. Ramirez won seven games for Coastal Bend and recorded 133 punch outs while holding an ERA of 3.62. The Karnes City, TX native also recorded 10 complete games and only surrendered three home runs on the season. Pitcher Tessa Ramirez was also named to the 2nd All-Region XIV Team for the 2022 campaign. Ramirez has moved on to Texas A&M International University in Laredo, Texas. 

Behind the dish for the Cougars for the past two seasons was Harley Escamilla. Escamilla played in 38 games for Coastal Bend this season. She held a batting average of .297 and a slugging percentage of .416. The Portland, TX native knocked in 22 rbi's while hitting nine extra base hits. The sophomore had a fielding percentage of .977 with 162 put-outs and four assisted outs. Escamilla signed with the University of Houston- Victoria to continue her academics and playing career.

On the hot corner for Coastal Bend this year was Yadira Lopez. The Kingsville, TX native played in 47 games this year for CBC and maintained a batting average of .382 for the season. Lopez racked up a team leading, 55 hits during her 144 at bats along with a slugging percentage of .472. She parked two long balls and hit seven doubles to go with her 22 rbi's. Lopez signed with Schreiner Unviersity in Kerrville, Texas for further her studies and softball career. 

Coastal Bend's Designated Player, Makayla Wesley provided a huge boost in the lineup this season. Wesley hit for a .336 average and a slugging percentage of .533.  The Freshman hit nine doubles on year and went yard four times to help lead the Cougars.  Makayla Wesley was named to the 2nd All-Region XIV Team during her only year at CBC. Wesley signed with Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas during the offseason to continue her academic and playing career. 

Cougar Pitcher, Isabella Guitterez is continuing her academic and playing career at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.  Gutierrez made 25 appearances during her two seasons at Coastal Bend. Gutierrez pitched a total of 55 and two thirds of an inning for the Cougars. She accumulated 22 strikeouts in recorded 2 victories. 
 
Coastal Bend Outfielder, Grace Martinez is currently enrolled at Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, Texas to further her academic and softball playing career. Martinez appeared in 48 games for coastal bend while holding in batting average of .291. She recorded 12 stolen bases and hit two triples for CBC. 
 
Sophomore Outfielder, Ashley Patterson has moved on to Texas College in Tyler, Texas to continue her studies and softball career. Patterson hit .333 and had a on base percentage of. 366. The Shepherd native all hit two doubles and two doubles in her last season with the Cougars. Patterson blazed the base paths with 24 stolen bags during her career at CBC. 
 
Coastal Bend Pitcher, Neesa Poncio will continue her academics and playing career at Holy Patriot in Houston, Texas. Poncio made 19 appearances in the circle for the Cougars. She pitched a total of 29 and two thirds of an inning while recording one Save. 
 
Freshman Shortstop, Alana Benitez appeared in 43 games during her lone season at Coastal Bend. Benitez head .360 at the dish, while maintaining a slugging percentage of .525. She knocked 15 doubles on the season and recorded 24 RBIs. Benitez is saying to our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. 

The Cougars set a new program record with winning 13 conference games this season. Coastal Bend fell short at the Region XIV Mid South B District softball tournament. The Cougars lost to top seeded Bossier Parish Community College, 4-5 in game one and Angelina College, 2-10 in game two. CBC wrapped up the 2022 campaign with an overall record of 20-28.
