Hot Bats Power Cougar Softball to Three Wins at the Cisco College Round Robin

Cisco, TX--  

Coastal Bend College defeated Luna Community College Roughriders 10-6 on Friday in CBC's first game of the Cisco College Round Robin. The Cougar's bats were blistering as Coastal Bend College scored 7 of their 10 runs in the first three innings. The Cougars recorded 16 hits in the game from seven different Cougar batters. CBC was led by Danielle Pompa who went 4 for 4 at the dish. Lesly Gonzales recorded three hits as well, going 3 for 4. Juliana Dominguez also collected three hits, going 3 for 5. Molly Olivarez and Krystal Perez joined the hit parade each collecting two hits. While Janice Corona and Jayln Salazar each finished the game with one hit. The 16 Cougar hits were a season high to that point in the season.

Emma Garcia got the start for Coastal Bend College. The Garcia went seven innings, allowing six runs on nine hits, striking out two and walking one.

 


In game two of the Cisco College Round Robin Coastal Bend College would again jump out to an early lead this time over Pratt Community College.  The Cougar bats were on fire again to start the game, scoring 5 runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back. The Cougar bats stayed hot as they would continue to put up crooked numbers again in the second, fourth and fifth innings, to get the run-ruled shortened game victory 14-6. There was plenty of action on the basepaths, the Cougars collected 11 hits in 26 plate appearances to the Beavers eight hits in their 24 plate appearances. Seven different cougar batters collected at least one hit in the game. The Cougars were led at the plate by Jaymie Gonzales who went 3 for 4 in the game and also tied for the game high with two RBI's along with Juliana Dominguez, Krystal Perez, Molly Olivarez and Kelsey Perez. Cougar slugger Krystal Perez picked up her second home run on the season with her two-run blast in the second inning.  

Danielle Pompa got the start for Coastal Bend College and collected the complete game win. Pompa surrendered six runs on eight hits over five innings, striking out two and walking one.

 


CBC's bats stayed hot for day 2 of the Cisco College Round Robin. Four hits from Molly Olivarez helped pave the way to victory for Coastal Bend College over Western Nebraska Community College, 14-6 on Saturday. Olivarez singled in the first, singled in the third, singled in the fourth, and homered in the fifth. Western Nebraska Community College opened up scoring in the first inning by crossing Home plate twice. Coastal Bend would then cut the 2-0 deficit in half by scoring once in the bottom half of the first inning. CBC held Western Nebraska to a scoreless second inning and took advantage of a scoring opportunity in the bottom of the second inning, scoring twice to take the lead, 3-2. Moving to the third frame, WNCC regained the lead by producing four runs. Coastal Bend College took the lead for good with four runs in the bottom half of the third inning. In the third, Elia Palomo singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run and Kayla Martinez homered on a 1-1 count, scoring three runs. Coastal Bend College notched six runs in the fifth inning. Danielle Pompa, Lesly Gonzalez, Juliana Dominguez, Olivarez, and Palomo each had RBIs in the big inning. Coastal Bend College racked up a season game high, 17 hits. Olivarez, Kelsey Perez, Palomo, Martinez, and Krystal Perez all managed multiple hits for Coastal Bend College.

Debra Favors led things off on the rubber for Coastal Bend College. Favors went five innings, allowing six runs on 11 hits, striking out four and walking zero. Coastal Bend College tallied three home runs on the day. Palomo had a four bagger in the fifth inning. Martinez went deep in the third inning. Olivarez had a long ball in the fifth inning. 

 


For the final game of the Cisco College Softball Round Robin, Coastal Bend wrapped up play against Navarro College late Saturday afternoon. Coastal Bend College fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 10-2 loss to the Bulldogs. The Cougars struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Navarro, giving up ten runs. Navarro jumped out to an early lead, and never looked back.

Emma Garcia was in the circle for Coastal Bend. Garcia went four innings, allowing ten runs on ten hits and striking out three. The Cougars socked one home run on the day. Kayla Martinez went deep in the third inning. Danielle Pompa went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Coastal Bend College in hits.
