Cougar Softball Drops Two in Conference Opener

Beeville, TX-  Coastal Bend College had a tough time generating runs on Thursday, dropping game one in five innings as the Blinn College Buccaneers silenced the Cougars 8-0.

Danielle Pompa recorded the lone hit in game one for the Cougars. Pompa went one for two with a walk to lead the Cougars in game one. Emma Garcia led things off in the pitcher's circle for Coastal Bend College. The Freshman Pitcher went five innings, allowing eight runs on eight hits and striking out one. CBC also reached base safely in the game following three Walks.

The Cougar bats came to life in game two but, it was not enough to overtake the Buccaneers as they survived the late CBC rally for the 8-4 victory. The Cougars would rack up ten hits in game two led by Janice Corona who went 3 for 4 at the plate with a double, one RBI and two runs scored. Kelsey Perez led CBC with 2 RBI's. Perez and Danielle Pompa each had two hits for Coastal Bend.

The Cougars offense was not able to produce any runs until the sixth inning scoring one run to cut the Buc's lead to six runs. The Buc's would score one more run in the top of the seventh inning to add to their 8-1 lead. The Cougar's seventh inning rally would fall short only scoring three runs. Debra Favors was in the pitcher's circle for Coastal Bend College, Favors went the distance, allowing ten hits and eight runs while striking out six in her seven innings.

Coastal Bend College is back on the diamond on Wednesday, March 22nd  for a conference doubleheader with Galveston College in Galveston, TX.
