Cougar Softball Sweeps Seahawks in Port Arthur

Beeville, TX-   The Coastal Bend College Softball team traveled to Port Arthur, TX to face Lamar State College- Port Arthur for a Region XIV Conference doubleheader. The Cougars were looking to pickup two wins, and did just that!

Game 1

Coastal Bend College Softball took the lead late and defeated LSCPCA  6-3 on Saturday in game one of their Region XIV Conference doubleheader. Down by one run in the top of the sixth inning, the Cougars rallied for four runs in the frame to take the lead. 

The CBC Freshman Pitcher, Danielle Pompa started in the pitching circle for the Cougars. The hurler allowed five hits and three runs over three innings, striking out one batter and walking zero.  

Emma Garcia entered the ball game in the fourth inning, relieving Pompa. Garcia allowed five hits, while keeping the runners from scoring. She also struck out three batters during her four innings of work. Garcia would be credited with the Win.  

The Cougars tallied 12 hits in the game.  Lesly Gonzalez, Perez, and Juliana Dominguez each had multiple hits for Coastal Bend College.  Gonzalez went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Coastal Bend in hits. Kayla Martinez, Dominguez and Gonzalez each hit a Double in the contest. Juliana Dominguez led the team in RBIs with two, while Janice Corona, Kelsey Perez, Martinez, and Pompa each knocked in an RBI to help propel Coastal Bend to victory.

Game 2

Coastal Bend College Softball started slow but eventually their bats started to heat up in Game 2 and cruised to a 10-run win over the Lamar State-Port Arthur Seahawks 12-2.

The Seahawks would get the board first with a run in the second inning. Coastal Bend College would take the lead for good in the third inning with three runs of their own. The Cougars would score two runs in the top of the fifth inning. Lamar State would strike back with one run of their own inn the bottom of the fifth inning to cut into the CBC lead at 5-2. But that is as close as the Seahawks would get as the Cougars would go on to score seven runs over the final two innings to secure the 12-2 victory.  The CBC banged out 13 hits in the win. The Cougars were led at the Plate by Juliana Dominguez and Krystal Perez who each had three hits in each of their four at bats. Dominguez had two doubles and Perez had a triple. The pair also accounted for 6 of the 12 runs. Molly Olivarez led the team in RBI's with two. Danielle Pompa, Dominguez and Perez each had two stolen bases.

CBC Freshman Emma Garcia got the start for the Cougars going five innings, giving up three hits one home run and two runs total while striking out two.  Then Sophomore, Elia Paloma came in to pitch the final two innings to get the save allowing no runs and only one walk to complete the sweep of the Lamar State-Port Arthur Seahawks.

The Cougars improve to 4-6 in conference play and 8-28 overall on the season. 

 

Coastal Bend College will be back on the diamond on Wednesday, April 5 for a conference doubleheader with Blinn College in Brenham, TX.
