Coastal Bend College Softball Prepares for Upcoming Season with New Team and Staff
The Coastal Bend College softball program is on the brink of an exhilarating season filled with anticipation and change. With fresh coaching strategies and talented recruits, the team is set to embrace a new chapter in its history.
 
Revamped Coaching Strategies:
The softball program welcomes a revamped coaching staff, led by Head Coach, Roland Salazar, and Assistant Coaches, Bailey Root and Olivia Garza. Coach Ro has been a part of the CBC softball staff for the past nine years, creating successful players with bright futures. Coach B joined the staff this past July, after being the Assistant Softball coach at Schreiner University for the past two years and competed five years in college. Coach Liv has just recently joined the staff this January, she competed in college for three years and has an enormous amount of softball IQ . Their experience and innovative approaches promise to elevate the team's performance and bring a new energy to the field.
 
Key Returners for the Cougars:
For the Spring 2024 campaign, Coastal Bend softball returns, six players from last years squad. Four of them are key players who bring leadership, experience and energy to the team as they look to build off of last season.  Sophomore, Kelsey Perez played in 30 games last year for the Cougars while recording a .942 fielding percentage. She also recorded three doubles on the season and knocked in five RBI's to go with her 12 runs.  Outfielder, Danielle Pompa returns to the team with a team leading 29 hits from last season as also hit three doubles, five RBI's and crossed home plate 20 times. Sophomore, Jaymie Gonzales, a big stick in the lineup recorded a team high- 14 RBI's while going yard twice last season and hitting four doubles. While in the batter's box, Gonzales hit .297 for the season.  Sophomore Utility Player, Janice Corona, saw action in 29 games last spring and returns with some experience. Corona lead the team in doubles, with six and also recorded eight RBI's for the Cougars. 
 
Talented Additions to the Roster:
Excitement buzzes around the acquisition of new players who are poised to make a lasting impact. Freshmen Sophia Garza, Pitcher, and Janessa Martinez, 3rd baseman, join the Coastal Bend College softball family, bringing skill, versatility, and a hunger for success that aligns with the team's goals.
