Cougars Win First Conference Game Behind Hemphill's Huge Fourth Quarter

Beeville, Tx- The Coastal Bend College Cougars opened Region XIV Conference play at Home on Saturday, December 1st against the Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers. Using the homecourt advantage, the Cougars took the tip off and pushed to an early lead in the first quarter holding the Lady Cavs scoreless until their first score at the six minute mark.  The quarter ended with a 10 point lead for the Lady Cougars 23-13. The second quarter Coastal Bend saw Bossier Parish fight back into the game as the score was tied at halftime, 36-36.

The game turned proceed to go back and forth in scoring with the Cavaliers eventually taking an 11 point lead over the Cougars, 61-50 at the end of the third period.  The fourth period started with a Technical Foul against Bossier Parish which gave the Cougars some momentum. Coastal Bend Forward, Emiko Hemphill entered the fourth quarter and completley took over the ball game. Hemphill scored 14 points and pulled down eight rebounds, grabbed three steals and had an assist in the final period to help propel Coastal Bend to victory. The Cougars won by a final score of  80-73 for their first Region XIV Conference game of the season. 

CBC Guard, Angelina Barela lead the Cougars in scoring with 21 points while collecting five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Hemphill finished the game with a huge Double-Double, in 19 points, 14 rebounds that included four steals. Aubrey Guerra netted 14 points points and corraled four rebounds for the game. Point Guard, Francheska Aguino led the team in assists with eight, while collecting four rebounds, two steals and five points. 

Tuesday, December 4th, Coastal Bend will be on the road to Jacksonville, Tx as they play anoter Region XIV Conference game against Jacksonville College.
