Bengals Pounce Cougars in Louisiana

Eunice, LA- Coastal Bend College women's basketball traveled to Louisiana on Friday, January 4th for a back to back matchup with Louisiana State University- Eunice. 

The Cougars started of the Spring 2019 semester with a poor shooting performance on Friday night's game vs the Bengals. Coastal Bend shot 34.3 percent from the field, 13.6 percent from three point range and 66.7 percent from the charity strike. Poor shooting was not the only down fall for CBC, turnovers were a vital part to their 94-63 loss. The Cougars committed 30 turnovers for the contest. 

Forward, Emiko Hemphill pulled down a Double-Double for CBC, scoring 13 points and grabbing 11 rebounds along with two steals. Guard, Marley Martinez lead the team in scoring with 17 while recording three rebounds and two steals. 

 


Saturday, January 8th the Cougar faced LSU- Eunice for the second time in as many days. This time around, CBC played much better with solid defense, team rebounding and shooting better as a unit. Coastal Bend shot 35 percent from the field, 22.2 percent from three point land but decreased their percentage from the free throw line, shooting 5-15 for 33.3 percent. Both teams had similar team stat lines, except in the free throw and turnover departments, where LSU-Eunice bested CBC. Ultimately, the Cougars came up just short in the game, losing 65-70. 

The Cougars had four players in double figures for the contest against LSU-Eunice. Forward, Emiko Hemphill lead the team in scoring with 14 and set a school record for rebounds with 27 along with recording seven steals and five blocked shots. Guard, Aubrey Guerra netted 11 points and collected six rebounds. Marley Martinez contributed 11 points for CBC while grabbing three rebounds and three steals. Point Guard, Francheska Aguino scored 10 points and dished out a game high, eight assists.
