CBC Women's Basketball Earns Hard Fought Victory at Home

Beeville, Tx-  The Coastal Bend Women's Basketball team had their first home game of the season this past Friday, November 8th. CBC hosted the visiting Hawks of Howard College for an evening matchup at the Peter S. Marecek Physical Fitness Center. 

After tip-off both teams settled in with the trading of baskets. CBC took a slight edge over Howard heading into the second period, 20-16.

In the second quarter, the Cougars had a few the defensive lapses that hurt them. Howard also outscored the Cougars by five points in the frame to take a 34-33 lead into halftime. 

During the third quarter, both teams again started the half by swapping points. The Hawks extended their lead at the end of the quarter, 56-51.

Heading into the fourth quarter, CBC buckled down on the defensive end of the floor, forcing turnovers and corralling rebounds. Extra possessions turned out to be beneficial in the crucial minutes of crunch time. Guards, Jada Mitchell and Olivia Chisolm hit clutch free throws to help the Cougars into the lead. Down by two points late, Howard came up empty on a possesion, Coastal Bend called a timeout for an out of bounds play. The play was executed to perfection, freeing Mitchell for a layup to put the Cougars up by four with minimal time left. CBC came back to win the game 71-67, after being down the previous two quarters.

Cassie Hogan had a game high 20 points for the Cougars. Hogan also had four rebounds and two steals. Mitchell scored 17 points while collecting six rebounds, two assists and three steals for her stat line. Point Guard, Olivia Chisolm recorded nine points while dishing out a game high, five assists. Off the bench, Jada Sheridan gave CBC a boost with seven points, six rebounds and two assists. 

The Cougars will be back at home on Thursday, November 14th as they host the Coastal Bend Classic. CBC will open play against McLennan Community College at 7:30 PM. They will face Ranger College at 7:00 PM on Friday, November 15th and Temple College at 3:00 PM on Saturday, 16th to conclude the classic.
