Cougars Defeat Armadillos on the Road to Tip-Off Season

San Antonio, Tx-  The Coastal Bend College women's basketball season commenced on the evening of Tuesday, November 1st whenever the team faced San Antonio College. Thanks to a fast start and some hot shooting in the first quarter, Coastal Bend cruised past San Antonio College, 80-39 to win their season opener.  

The first quarter saw the Cougars build a 29-10 lead thanks to 11 field goals made.  The Cougars then had a few scoring droughts in the second quarter but maintained a strong defensive prowess to prevent the Armadillos from scoring. Coastal Bend lead San Antonio, 41-18 at halftime. 

The same theme occurred in the third quarter for the Cougars, a relentless effort on the defensive side of the court, but difficulty scoring. In the fourth quarter, CBC hung up 22 points to finish off the Armadillos for a final score of 80-39.

Sophomore Guard, Shayla DeDe lead the Cougars in scoring with 19 points and also totaled five rebounds, six assists and four steals. Freshman Guard, Jaydee Zamora tallied 10 points and seven rebounds and six steals for her performance. The Cougars received a big presence in the paint from Taryanna McNary as she netted 12 points and corralled 17 rebounds in her season debut. 

UP NEXT: The Cougars will travel to the southern panhandle of Texas for the South Plains Classic. They first have a matchup with #8 South Plains College on the evening of Thursday, November 3rd at 6:00 PM in the Texan Dome. Coastal Bend will then face Dodge City Community College at 4:00 PM on Friday, November 4th in the Texan Dome.
