Cougars end Thanksgiving weekend on two game win streak

Coastal Bend College women's basketball ended their Thanksgiving weekend in Louisiana on a two-game win streak. The cougars faced up against the LSU-Eunice Lady Bengals on Friday with a solid team effort to win the game 76-56.   

The Cougars were led in scoring by Shayla DeDe who put up 24 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, while shooting 50% from beyond the arc and 100% from the free throw line. Freshman guard, Keely Burks, ended with 15 points and 6 rebounds also shooting 100% from the free throw line.   

Saturday's matchup in New Orleans against Delgado College, the cougars got off to a slow start trailing the Dolphins by 11 points at halftime. In the second half the Cougars outscored the Delgado Dolphins 40-16 leading to the 63-50 victory.   

Sophomore guard Jada Beasley finished the game with a double-double and a career high of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Shayla DeDe also finished the game with 18 points and dished out 6 assists. Jaydee Zamora added 14 points.  

"The ladies really played well this weekend.  Very proud how far we have came as a team and proud of them for working hard.  We won the two games in very different ways.  One we maintained and controlled throughout and the other we basically couldn't do very much right and at the end we just found a way to get stops and scores.  Super proud of the fight and effort the girls showed!" 

 

 UP NEXT: The Cougars play at home December 5th in a rematch against Southwestern Christian Community College at 5:00 p.m. The Cougars will then travel on December 7th to play #20 ranked Tyler Junior College at 5:30 p.m. The semester will round out with a home game Saturday, December 10th against the #3 ranked Blinn College.
