Volleyball Drops Two On Weekend

Volleyball Drops Two On Weekend

After four matches on the road, and schedule changes thanks to Hurricane Harvey, the Cougar volleyball team opened their home schedule this weekend with a pair of Regional Matches.  Unfortunately for the Columbia and Navy, it would be two loses as the Cougars dropped to 2-4 on the season.

Lee College

The Lee College Lady Rebels came calling on Friday evening and left with a hard fought four set victory - 25-23, 25-19, 19-25, 25-15 victory.  The Lady Rebels had to fight their way back into the first set with their 24th point being their first lead after starting the match of with a 6-2 lead over the Cougars.  After a rough 2nd set, the Cougars rallied for a dominating third set victory behind a big effort from sophomore Christina Montez.  Montez picked up where she left off back in August leading CBC with 14 kills.  Fellow sophomore and outside hitter, Pam Ellis, also reached double digit kills putting down 10.

San Jacinto

No rest for the Cougars as they had a short rest to rally for Saturday's match-up with the San Jac Ravens.  CBC showed they had plenty in the tank as they battled a much taller opponent (two players over 6'4" on the roster) having a couple of swings for the first set before falling 30-28.  The Cougars may have emptied the tank in that first set as the next two the Ravens controlled from the first serve to the final kill.  Ellis was again the leader of the pack racking up 11 kills in the losing effort.

CBC will be on the road next week when they travel to Wharton College on Wednesday, Blinn College and Houston Community on Saturday.
