Sophomore Cougars Make Most of Their Day, Sweep Houston.

It had been 34 days since the Coastal Bend College volleyball team had tasted victory.  On Saturday, the CBC Class of 2018 made certain that the winless streak would end.  The program's eight sophomores were honored prior to the match and then came out and made quick work of the Eagles of Houston Community College sweeping them in straight sets 25-9, 25-13 and 25-19.

Sophomore outside hitter Christina Montez did what she has done nearly every match this season; pacing the Cougar offense with a match-high 11 kills.  Sophomore setter Gladis Guerrero dished out a match-high 11 assists, while sophomore Jade Sendejar handed out nine assists.  Sendejar also led the team in service aces with six, half of the ace total for the team on the day.  Sophomore right side hitter Robyn Young played more defense than offense, and led the team with three total blocks (a block solo and two block assists), while sophomore, defensive specialist Chylee LeFever scooped up 11 Eagle attacks to lead the team.   Fellow sophomores, Ashlynn Goff and Precious Lopez were also in on the fun;  with Goff corralling 10 Eagle attacks from her libero position, while Lopez gathered two kills and one block - but whose presence at the net impacted the Eagle attack far more than reflected in the final statistics.

The Cougars will return to the court on Tuesday when they host Victoria College at 6:00 pm.
