The CBC Volleyball team is currently ranked amongst the top defensive teams in NJCAA Division I  and in Region XIV.  Tonight, in their match versus the Pirates of Victoria College, the Cougars showed just how stifling that defense can be the type of impact in can have on its opponent.

The Cougars dug 78 Pirate shots tonight, which is actually just below their NJCAA Division I leading average of 20 digs per set.  The backcourt defenses job was made easier, as Columbia and Navy put on a clinic blocking a total of 11 balls lead by Sydney Whitaker's and Emma Batte's three and Precious Lopez's two.  Alyssa Hutcheson popped up 30 digs, while her backcourt mates of Alyssa Estrada dug 14, while Cierra Hernandez and Lindsay Garibay gobbled up 12 spike attempts each.

The defensive pressure was unrelenting the entire evening as the Cougars closed out the first set 25-20, before taking the second set 25-18.  There would be no come back for Victoria tonight as CBC raced to a 19-4 lead behind their relentless serving, defense and blocking.  They closed the set and the match 25-14 with each member in uniform having contributed to the victory.  Offensively, the Cougars did not have their best evening, but did enough to get the win.  Batte led the Cougars with six kills while hitting .312.  

CBC will be back in action in a week's time when they travel to Baytown for a Region XIV rematch with Lee College on Friday, before heading north to take on Blinn College on Saturday.
