Historic Volleyball Season Ends At Region XIV Championship Tournament

The historic 2018 volleyball season came to end on Saturday at the Region XIV Championship Tournament as the Cougars lost consecutive matches.  The Cougars finished as the #4 seed in Region XIV's South Zone and were matched up against the East Zone's number top seed the 3rd ranked Navarro College.

The Cougars showed big stage jitters in the opening set with the Bulldogs rolling over them 25-9.  CBC regrouped in the second set, battling their way to 25-22 loss to the bigger Navarro line-up.  The Bulldogs showed in the third stanza why they are one of the nation's elite teams jumping on the Cougars early, before cruising to a comfortable 25-12 victory.

The CBC offense managed just 18 kills as a team, with freshman setter Samantha Santos leading the way with seven kills and seven assists as she transitioned to a setting and hitting role for the Cougars on the weekend.  Freshman Cierra Hernandez led the Cougars with nine assists, while freshman Alyssa Hutcheson grabbed a team high 11 digs.

The loss moved the Cougars to the contenders bracket where they took on the South Zone's #2 seeded Laredo College who had lost to Trinity Valley in straight sets earlier in the day.

The Palominos jumped out eary in the first set only to see the Cougars come roaring back to take a late lead.  CBC had a swing for the set at 24-23, but couldn't convert as Palominos would take the set one 27-25.  The second and third sets were all Laredo as they swept the Cougars 25-19 and 25-15 to end their season. 

Samantha Santos again lead the Cougars with seven kills, while sophomores Lindsay Garibay and Precious Lopez and freshman Cameron Del Angel each added five kills.  Alyssa Hutcheson secured a team high 14 digs in the losing effort.

With eleven freshman scheduled to return to the Cougars next season, the future looks very bright for the CBC program.
