2 Cougars Named to Vernon College Volleyball Tournament Team

Vernon, Tx- In the tail end of August, opening weekend of play for Coastal Bend College Volleyball, the Cougars rattled off a 4-1 record to begin the season. Three of those victories came at the Vernon College Classic, as CBC beat Dodge City Community College, Richland College, and Vernon College. The Cougars only loss of the weekend came to the hands of Pratt Community College.

During the course of the weekend, Coastal Bend played well as a unit and had two student-athletes receive notoriety for their great play. Of the two players selected to the all tournament team, one a returner, Samantha Santos, a Sophomore Setter. The other player to be named, Devin Branch, a Freshman Middle Blocker from San Marcos, Tx.

Santos, a San Antonio native, made a great impact for the Cougars. The Sophomore Setter posted 41 kills, 66 assists, and 38 digs during the four game tournament. Branch showed great energy and effort throughout the classic, making hustle plays that do not necessarily show up on that stat sheet. The Middle Blocker recorded 10 kills, three blocks and two digs for CBC.
