Cougar Volleyball Starts Season on High Note

Beeville, TX- The Coastal Bend College Volleyball program officially tipped their season off this past weekend. CBC hosted The Region V vs Region XIV Showdown. The Cougars welcomed teams from Blinn College, Wharton County Junior College, Ranger College, Cisco College, Cedar Valley College, and Mountain View College.

For their first game of the season Coastal Bend opened against Mountain View College on Thursday, August 18th. The Cougars made quick work of the Lions sweeping them in three sets. 
 
On Friday, Coastal Bend would beat Ranger for their second win of the season, but it was a battle with the match going the distance. The Cougars would win the first set and drop sets to and three before rallying in the fourth and fifth set to win the match. 
 
For the second match of the day, The Cougars fought hard against Cisco College but ultimately ended up dropping the match in three sets. CBC competed in every set against the Wranglers but could not tally a set. 
 
On the final day of The Region V vs Region XIV Showdown, Coastal Bend would face Cedar Valley. The Cougars handled the Suns in four sets to move to 3-1 on the young season.

Cougars came out very strong after a long weekend ending up 3-1. Leading stats from this weekend came from our Setter Leah Gonzales with 42 assists, 30 digs, and 11 service aces. In addition, Outside Hitter Odalys Gonzalez had 42 kills and 48 digs, Libero Samantha Ward with 97 digs, and Middle Blocker Caitlyn Jones with ten total blocks and 22 kills. This was a solid performance for the Cougars, as they are preparing for their next set of matches this coming weekend. 

UP NEXT:
The Cougars will travel to Dallas for the North Lake - Richland Tournament on August 26th and 27th. CBC will be facing Northlake at 10:00 AM and McCook Community College at 2:30 PM on Friday, August 26th. Coastal Bend will then face Rose State College at 10:00 AM and Richland College at 2:30 PM on Saturday, August 27th to conclude competition.
