Five Cougars Selected to All Star Game

Coastal Bend College Men's Baseball program has done it again. CBC uped last year's All Star nods by one to five student-athletes that have been selected to represent CBC at the Texas - New Mexico Junior College All Star Game. The game will take place at Blinn College in Brenham, TX on September 21st and 22nd.

Relief Pitcher, Mason Foster has been selected to play in the Fall classic. Foster appeared on the mound for the Cougars 17 times during his freshman season. The Dilley, Tx native recorded a school record and finished second in NJCAA Divison III, with seven Saves.

Outfielder, Kyler Bumstead has been nominated for the All-Star game. Bumstead played in 55 games for the Cougars while batting .350, recording four home runs and 25 RBI's along with scoring 33 runs. The Kountze native also had a fielding percentage of .911 for the 2018 season. Bumstead was named National Player of the Week for NJCAA Division III Baseball while hitting six doubles, a triple, and a homerun while going 14-21 (.667 batting average) while also knocking in nine runs and scoring another nine runs himself.

Pitcher, Michael Dinsdale would be one of five Cougars to have his name called for the All-Star game. Dinsdale made 14 appearances during the 2018 campaign, 11 of those, he would start on the hill for CBC. The Pasadena native posted five wins on the season while pitching 60 2/3 of an inning. Dinsdale struck out 40 batters and only managed to give up two long balls. During his freshman year, Dinsdale was named NJCAA Division III National Pitcher of the Week with his one-hit, seven strikeout performance vs. NJCAA Division I Laredo Community College on February 13th.  Dinsdale pitched 5 1/3 innings of shutout baseball; surrendering three walks and only one hit. 

Pitcher, Marco Becerril has been named to the Texas/New Mexico Junior College All Star Game. Becerril appeared in 16 outings for CBC and made 13 starts on the bump. The native from Spring, Tx recorded a single season record for wins in a season with 10. By posting 10 wins, Becerril finished second among pitcher's in NJCAA Division III baseball. Becerril also received honors of NJCAA Division III National Pitcher of the Week during the month of February by pitching a seven inning shutout against Laredo Community College, while allowing five hits, one walk and ringing up three batters. Becerril's most impressive feat for the 2018 season, was being named first team All-American two times. Once by NJCAA Division III and 2018 ABCA/Rawlings NJCAA Division III All-America Team.

First Baseman/Pitcher, Ruben Sepulveda becomes the first Cougar in school history to be nominated as a dual position player for the Texas/New Mexico Junior College All Star Game. Sepulveda appeared in 52 games while hitting .323 on the season and cracking out nine home runs along with 47 RBI's, and scoring 34 times. The Rio Grande City native appeared 14 times on the mound with 12 of them being Starts. Sepulveda recorded six wins on the year while pitching in over 70 innings and posting a 3.07 ERA. The freshman was also named NJCAA Division III National Player of the Week, during his outstanding play during January 29th – February 4th. Sepulveda led the Cougars to a series win over NJCAA Division II #7 ranked Murray State.  Sepulveda displayed his a duel threat ability against Murray State as he hit .555 with five hits - including two doubles, two runs scored, seven RBIs, drew two walks, had a stolen base, recorded two double plays in the field all while pitching two shutout innings and recording one strike out. Sepulveda also pitched a no hitter in the month of March, against visiting Ridgewater College. Due to a run-rule, Sepulveda only pitched five innings, but he was too much for the opposing hitters to handle as he faced 16 batters while ringing up three strikeouts and having great fielding from his teammates.

All five student athletes will be in action during Friday, September 21st at 6:20 PM and Saturday the 22nd at 3:20 PM.
