CBC Softball Spring Break Recap

Coastal Bend Softball competed in a total of 10 games during Spring Break, playing all away games. The Cougars first traveled to Laredo, Tx for a double header matchup between Howard College and Laredo Community College on Saturday, March 9th and Sunday, March 10th. 

Saturday, March 9th Coastal Bend faced Howard College for the first game of the Double Header in Laredo. Right Handed Pitcher, Kirstyn Gomez would start for the Cougars in the circle.

The Hawks scored one run in the Top of the First inning, but CBC cracked the game open with five runs. The Cougars later added to their run total in the Fourth and Fifth innings. Howard cut in to the Coastal Bend lead by slowly chipping away in the Fifth and Sixth innings. Ultimately, the Cougars would prevail and hold off the Hawks to win, 8-6. 

Gomez would pitch five and one third of an inning, spreading out six hits, six runs, and one earned run to go with her two strikeouts. Left Handed Pitcher, Amanda Aguirre entered the ball game in the sixth inning to relieve Gomez. Aguirre pitched one and two thirds of an inning, allowing only one hit and striking out three opposing batters. 

CBC Right Fielder, Madyson Parker went two for four at the plate, collecting two RBI's. Left Fielder, Britney Garcia also went two for four at the plate, hitting a Double recording an RBI. Second Baseman, Kirstie Soto hit a Double and a Single, going two for four at the plate for the Cougars with an RBI. First Baseman, Ashley Soto knocked in a run by hitting a Single. 


For the second game of the day, Coastal Bend would face the Palominos. Left Handed Pitcher, Amanada Aguirre recieved the nod for CBC.

The Cougars would start the game by scoring two runs in the First inning. Laredo would trim the 2-0 CBC lead in half, by scoring one run in the Bottom of the First. 

LCC would take a 3-2 lead in the Bottom of the Second inning. The next score in the ball game would not come until later in the game, when CBC regained the lead at 4-3 in the Top of the Sixth inning. 

Coastal Bend would blank Laredo for the remainder of the game, winning by a final of 4-3.

Aguirre ended up pitching a complete game for the Cougars, going seven innings and scattering six hits throughout the game. The lefty allowed only one earned run with two strikeouts in the Win.

Coastal Bend Shortstop, Annette Cardenas had a day in the batter's box, going three of four with a Double and RBI. Right Fielder, Madyson Parker also hit a Double, penciling in an RBI. Center Fielder, Vanessa Garces notched in an RBI with a Single. Third Baseman, Emily Michki went two of four at the dish, with a Single and a Double. 


On Sunday, March 10th, CBC would face Howard College for the second time in as many as days. Amanda Aguirre would get things started for the Cougars in the circle. 

The Hawks would score the first run of the game in the Top of the Second inning. An inning later, the Cougars would tie the game up at one. 

In the Top of the Fourth inning, Howard would have a big inning, scoring five runs. The Cougars would answer back with three runs in the Bottom of the Fourth inning. 

With the game still close, the Cougars trailed 4-6 heading into the Top of the Sixth inning. The Hawks would increase their lead during the inning to 9-4. Coastal Bend would fight hard to get back in the game, but would not find any success at the plate for the remainder of the game. The Hawks would take the game, 9-4 from the Cougars, splitting the weekend series. 

Aguirre would pitch four innings, surrendering six runs, three earned runs and three strikeouts. Kirstyn Gomez entered the game in the Fifth inning to relieve, Aguirre. Gomez allowed two hits, three runs, one earned runs and two strikeouts. 

CBC Third Baseman, Emily Michki produced all four Cougar runs, hitting a Double and Single for the game. 

 


Coastal Bend and Laredo Community College would square off for the last game, on Sunday, March 10th. Right Handed Pitcher, Kirstyn Gomez would get the start for CBC.

In the Bottom of the First inning, the Palominos broke the 0-0 ball game up with a run. The Cougars responded back with two runs of their own in the Top of the Second inning to take the lead. LCC ended up tying the game up in the Bottom of the Third inning by scoring another run. 

The Fifth inning brought a lot of excitement from both teams. The Cougars exploded for four runs in the Top of the inning. Laredo answered back with three runs of their own to trail CBC, 5-6. 

During the Top of the Sixth inning, Coastal Bend keep the runs coming, as they expanded their lead, 9-5. In the Final inning, CBC added some extra insurance with another run to lead 10-5 going to the bottom of the Seventh. The Palominos would cut into the five run deficit by scoring two runs, but it would not be enough as the Cougars would end the game by a final of 10-7 in favor of CBC.

Gomez pitched three innings, allowing five hits and two runs to cross the plate. Amanda Aguirre entered the game in the Fourth inning, surrendering five hits, four earned runs, four walks and one strikeout for her outing.

Coastal Bend Designated Player, Madyson Parker had a Single and a Triple collecting two RBI's. Shortstop, Annette Cardenas produced two runs off a Single. Center Fielder, Vanessa Garces batted 1.000 for the game, going three for three at the plate and recording an RBI. First Baseman, Brianna McKeel went three for four at the dish with a Double and collected an RBI. Second Baseman, Kirstie Soto batted .500 on the game with an RBI and a Double. Catcher, Ashley Soto also hit a Double and recorded an RBI. Third Baseman, Emily Michki went two for four in the batter's box with a Triple, pencilling in a RBI. 


 On Tuesday, March 12th the CBC Softball program traveled to Brownsville, Tx for a double header with UTRGV. 

Right Handed Pitcher, Kirstyn Gomez started the first game of the two game series for Coastal Bend. Gomez pitched five and two thirds of an inning, allowing six hits, two runs while striking out a season high, nine batters. Pitcher, Devon Parson entered the game in the Sixth inning to relieve Gomez. 

Coastal Bend busted the game open in the Top of the Second inning with four runs and added to their lead in the Top of the Third with three more runs. UTRGV was able to score one run in the Bottom of the Third inning. The Cougars further increased their lead in the Top of the Sixth inning, by scoring five runs. The Vaqueros scored two runs in the Bottom half of the Sixth, but it would not be enough. The Cougars went on to win the game, 12-3. 

The Cougars brought out their bats for the game, turning it into a hitting clinic. Right Fielder, Avery Hearn went three for four at the plate recording three RBI's and two Doubles. Third Baseman, Emily Michki batted .500 for the game, with three RBI's and a Home Run. In the batter's box, Second Baseman, Kirstie Soto had a Single and a Home Run to go with her two RBI's. Designated Player, Madyson Parker hit a Home Run and a Single to collect an RBI. First Baseman, Ashley Soto went two for three at the dish, with a Double and an RBI. Catcher, Brianna McKeel recorded a batting average of .500 for the game, hitting two Singles and an RBI.


 For the second and final game of the day, The Cougars started Left Handed Pitcher, Amanda Aguirre. Aguirre pitched three innings, giving up three hits, three runs while striking out two batters. Relief Pitcher, Devon Parsons entered the game in the Fourth inning for CBC. Parsons pitched four complete innings, allowing two hits, two runs and a walk. 

Coastal Bend started off the ball game with a bang, exploding for seven runs in the Top of the First inning. The Vaqueros would answer back with three runs of their own in the Bottom of the First to close the gap. In the Top of the Second and Third Innings, CBC would tack on one run in each of those innings. 

It was not until the Bottom of the Fourth inning that UTRGV was able to get back on the scoreboard by scoring two runs. The Fifth inning brought more fireworks, as Coastal Bend increased their lead, yet again with a four run inning. 

In the Top of the Seventh inning, CBC scored an additional run for insurance purposes. The Cougars ended up beating the Vaqueros, 14-5, winning the two game series. 

CBC Shortstop, Annette Cardenas had a game at the plate, hitting a Home Run and a Single, while collecting four RBI's. Second Baseman, Kirstie Soto batted .500 for the game recording two RBI's. Right Fielder, Avery Hearn went three for five at the dish, hitting a Double and a Home Run. Third Baseman, Emily Michki hit two Doubles on the game, collecting one RBI. Center Fielder, Vanessa Garces hit two Singles during her three plate appearances, pencilling in an RBI. 


On Friday, March 15th Coastal Bend began Region XIV Conference play with a double header with the Coyotes. The Cougars traveled to Houston, Tx for a Double Header with San Jacinto College. 

CBC Pitcher, Kirstyn Gomez would start game one for the Cougars. Gomez pitched five and a third of an inning, giving up five hits, six earned runs and eight walks late in the game. Lefty, Amanda Aguirre surrendered four hits, four earned runs during her outing of relief. Devon Parsons pitched a third of an inning, allowing three runs to cross the plate. 

Coastal Bend took a four run lead into the Bottom of the Sixth inning, thanks to Left Fielder, Avery Hearn and Right Fielder, Madyson Parker. Both recorded two RBI's throughout the course of the game, Parker hit a two run, Home Run, as Hearn hit a Single for her two runs batted in. 

In the Bottom of the Sixth inning, the Coyotes erupted for 12 runs to win the game, 12-4. 

Coastal Bend Shortstop, Annette Cardenas and Pitcher, Kirstn Gomez both batted two for three at the plate for the game. 


Game two would play out for a different outcome. Pitcher, Kirstyn Gomez would start in the circle for CBC once again. 

Gomez pitched six strong innings, allowing five runs off of five hits, two runs of which counted as earned. 

San Jacinto would break the scoreless game in the Bottom of the Second inning with one run. The Coyotes scored another run in the Bottom of the Third inning to go up 2-0. 

The Cougars would finally get on the scoreboard in the fifth inning by scoring two runs to tie the ball game. San Jac quickly regained the lead in the Bottom half of the Fifth by scoring one run.

After a scoreless Sixth inning, the Coyotes increased their lead, 5-2 heading into the final inning. The Cougars looked to make a comeback by scoring one run, but ultimately fell short. San Jacinto ended up winning the game, 5-3 and took the two game series.

Coastal Bend Right Fielder, Madyson Parker recorded two RBI's on three hits including a Double. Shortstop, Annette Cardenas went one for two, with an RBI. Left Fielder, Avery Hearn hit a Single and a Double to bat .500 for the game. 


Coastal Bend's next set of conference games would be played in Brenham, Tx for a double header against Blinn College. Left Handed Pitcher, Amanda Aguirre received the start for CBC. Aguirre went on to pitch six innings, only allowing three hits, two runs and one strikeout. 

In a game that the Cougars would only produce three hits, runs were difficult to come by. The games first run would not occur until the Bottom of the Fourth inning, when the Buccaneers took a 1-0 lead. 

After another scoreless frame, the Bucs increased their lead in the Bottom of the Fifth inning, 2-0. The Cougars would play hard and fight till the end, but were not able to produce any runs. 

Blinn ended up taking the first game, 2-0. 

CBC Center Fielder, Vanessa Garces went two for two at the plate with a Walk. 


For the second game of the day, CBC Pitcher, Kirstyn Gomez would get things started between the lines. 

Gomez pitched three and a third of an inning, surrendering seven runs off six hits. Amanda Aguirre entered the game in the Fourth inning to relieve Gomez. Aguirre allowed one hit and two runs for her performance. 

Blinn scored four runs in the Bottom of the First inning to lead Coastal Bend. CBC was held scoreless until the Top of the Fourth inning, when Shortstop, Annette Cardenas hit a Solo Home Run. In the Bottom of the Fourth inning, the Bucs increased their lead by scoring three runs. 

After a scoreless fifth inning, the Buccaneers tacked on an additional two runs to run rule the Cougars, 9-1. 

CBC Third Baseman, Emily Michki went one for two on the game, hitting a Double.


Coastal Bend will be hosting Alvin Community College on Friday, March 22nd for a Region XIV Conference double header at AC Jones High School. First Pitch is at 1:00 PM. On Saturday, March 23rd, CBC will also host Galveston College at 1:00 PM for a conference double header. The Cougars fall to 0-4 in conference play and hold a 15-14 record on the season.
