CBC Volleyball Tumbles vs Top Ranked Opponents Over Weekend

Beeville, Tx-   The Coastal Bend College Volleyball team fell in four sets to #7 Trinity Valley Community College on Friday night.

NOTABLES:

· Ava Johnson recorded 9 kills, and 10 points

· Samantha Santos had 9 kills, 16 digs, 2 blocks and 15 points.

· Cameron Del Angel had 5 kills, 2 solo blocks and 7 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

SETS 1 AND 2 (17-25 AND 11-25) | The Cougars got on the board first with a kill from Ava Johnson. The team went point-for-point until the Cardinals went on to take the lead late. In the second set, TVCC took the lead from the first point and didn't let down, taking the second set as well.

SET 3 AND 4 (25-22 and 19-25) | CBC started strong in their third set and it was point for point. Cameron Del Angel had 2 solo blocks to help seal the deal for the Cougars, pushing another set.


On Saturday the Cougars fell to #2 Navarro College in three sets; 11-25, 8-25, 12-25, moving them to 10-11 on the season. In seven sets total for both opponents the standouts were:

Alyssa Hutcheson with a combined 33 digs

Samantha Santos with 14 kills, 21 digs and 20 assists

Cierra Hernandez with a combined 24 digs.

Coach Macy had a few words about this past weekend's events: "This weekend we went up against two of the toughest teams in our conference. We played hard and we took a set from Trinity Valley and that is a big accomplishment for us. This week we are prepping to go against Wharton and Victoria two teams we are pretty similar too so it's going to be some hard fought matches."

The Cougars will be on the road for two more conference matches against Wharton County Junior College (Oct. 2 at 6:00PM) and Victoria College (Oct. 5 at 2:00PM). CBC Volleyball currently holds a 10-11 record on the season and moves to 0-2 in Region XIV Conference Play.
