Byrd Ready to Take Flight as New Men's Basketball Head Coach
Beeville, TX-  Coastal Bend College has tabbed Robert Byrd the Head Coach for the Men's Basketball program. Byrd comes to Coastal Bend College after spending two seasons as the Athletic Director and Head Basketball Coach at the University of Arkansas Cossatot Community College.
 
During the 2021-2022 season the men's basketball program went (17-10, 5-5), with 4 NJCAA D1 wins. Terry Anderson was named an NJCAA D2 All-American and the Region 2, D2 Player of the year for the second time. During the 2020-2021 season men's basketball went (11-7, 6-4) were a 3 seed in the Region 2 tournament, picked up their first postseason win in program history advancing to the semifinal game. He also guided the women's program to their first postseason appearance and win in program history in 2020-2021. 

Byrd completed two years as an assistant coach for the University of St Thomas men's basketball team. For the 2019-2020 season the Celts finished 24-2 overall and 16-2 in the SCAC to win the Conference Regular Season Championship. The Celts were ineligible for postseason play due to their transition from NAIA to NCAA. But did participate in and win their first-round game in the USCAA D1 National Tournament. At the conclusion of their first game the tournament was canceled due to COVID-19. The Celts were the #2 seed and were ranked 2nd in the USCAA D1 National Poll. 

During the 2018-2019 season the Celts finished the season 23-11 overall and 11-7 in RRAC play, this earned them the #4 seed in the RRAC tournament. The Celts ultimately ended up winning the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament Championship by beating the #15 ranked LSUS Pilots and received a #22 ranking in the final NAIA D1 national poll and a #6 seed in the NAIA D1 National Tournament.   

Byrd joined the Celts after serving one year as an assistant and six years as Head men's basketball coach at Lone Star College-CyFair. 

During his time at LSC-CyFair, Byrd accumulated over 20 wins in each of his 6 seasons as Head Coach and guided over 30 players to 4-year Universities on Athletic and Academic Scholarships. 

In his tenure at LSC-CyFair Robert was in charge of tutoring, recruitment, management of the Men's basketball budget, advising student-athletes, practice planning, scouting and in-game coaching. 

Byrd participated in the NBPA Top 100 camp in 2005 as a camper and also worked with the NBPA Top 100 camp from 2009-2016 as a camp counselor and assistant equipment manager. 

Byrd earned his Master's degree in Educational Leadership from the University of North Texas and his Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Houston.
