Dunedin, FL—  The Toronto Blue Jays, of Major League Baseball have recently announced the signing of JJ Sanchez. Sanchez, a former left-handed pitcher for Coastal Bend College. 

 

The Rio Grande Valley native pitched for the Cougars two years ago, in the Spring of 2021 whenever he transferred in at midterm from Texas A&M International University (NCAA Div. II). Sanchez pitched a total of 65 and a third of an inning, striking out 57 batters while possessing a 5.10 ERA. He also picked up four wins on the historic run to the NJCAA Division III World Series in Greeneville, Tennessee. 

 

Following stints at previous institutions, Sanchez most recently played for Southeastern University, a NAIA University located in Lakeland, Florida. 

 

During his time with the Fire, the lefty from Los Fresnos, Texas was 5-0 with a 1.91 ERA in 37.2 innings of work. Sanchez racked up 65 strikeouts against 18 walks while holding opposing batters to just a .160 batting average. He was a key part to the team's success and eventual run to the NAIA World Series. Sanchez will be assigned to one of the Blue Jays minor league affiliates in the coming days.
