COASTAL BEND COLLEGE FOUNDATION LAUNCHES NEW MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Coastal Bend College Foundation is proud to announce the launch of the Marsha Countis Memorial Scholarship. The Marsha Countis Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to the freshman Cougar baseball player who maintains the highest grade-point average.

The scholarship is named in honor of Marsha Countis (1942-2000), a former journalist for the Nashua Telegraph in New Hampshire, an avid sports fan and the mother of Coastal Bend College staff member Andrew Countis.

"My mother had a strong commitment to charitable works," Andrew said of his mother. "When her husband's job would necessitate a relocation, she would unpack and then immediately found a charitable organization to help the less fortunate, several of which are still in existence 40 years later.

"The reason that this would be important to her is that it is important to me," Andrew continued. "If she were here, she would have ordered a dozen items from the CBC bookstore and probably found a cougar statue for her garden."

Donations to the Marsha Countis Memorial Scholarship fund will be accepted online at thecbcfoundation.org.
