Tyler, Texas – The Apaches extended their four-game win streak with a dominant victory over conference opponent Coastal Bend Cougars. Heading into the game, the Apaches knew they would need to adjust their usual strategy, as Coastal Bend's tallest player stood at just 5'9". This meant the Apaches' post players would need to step out and defend the outside shots.
The game began with some back-and-forth play, but the Apaches started to find their rhythm midway through the second quarter. In the first quarter, they focused on breakaways, fast transitions, and a high volume of outside shots. The Apaches exploded in the second quarter, outscoring the Cougars 30-16 and heading into halftime with a commanding 48-33 lead.
The momentum continued in the second half, with the Apaches further extending their lead. They scored 30 points in the third quarter and 27 in the fourth, ultimately defeating the Cougars 105-62.
Key players in the game included Grace Ezebilo, who recorded a double-double with 20 points and 23 rebounds, Monica Bottley with 19 points and 6 assists, and Kyra Anderson and Da'Lonna Choice, who each contributed 16 points. Anderson added 6 rebounds and 3 assists, while Choice contributed 4 rebounds and assists.
The Apaches will look to continue their winning streak as they face Angelina on the road Saturday, February 18th, at 2 p.m. The Roadrunners, currently ranked sixth in Region 14, have an 8-7 overall record and a 1-1 conference record.
