Apaches go 3-1 in Cisco Tournament

After dropping the first game of the weekend, the No. 5 Apache Ladies stormed back to capture three wins in the Cisco College Tournament held in Abilene.

In the first game on Friday, Blinn stopped Tyler Junior College 9-3. The Apaches then defeated Coastal Bend 4-2, followed by two wins on Saturday — 13-4 over No. 11 Howard and 10-2 over Ranger.

The Apache Ladies (12-4) return home for a three-game set — DH vs. Cisco, 4 p.m. Saturday; and a single game with Weatherford, 1 p.m. Sunday. Games are scheduled for The Brook Hill School's Schwab Field in Bullard.

Against Blinn, the Apache Ladies fell behind 4-0 and could not recover. They did have seven hits, including a home run by Jazmine Dodd and a double by Brecklyn Dennis.

Dodd and Hannah Frank each had two hits with Tanjala Smith and Brooke Makemson adding singles. Dodd drove in all three runs.

Dennis scored two runs.

Kimber Cortemelia and Tori Alavrez-Lopez hit homers for Blinn (10-7).

Kaycee Parker's full-count homer in the bottom of the seventh gave TJC the 4-2 walk-off win over Coastal Bend.

TJC fell behind 2-0 before scoring single runs in the third and fourth.

Dennis, Maleah Olvera and Smith hit doubles for the Apache Ladies. Dodd, Dennis and Sloane Johnson each had two hits with Destinee Dixon adding a single.

Along with Parker's two RBIs, Dennis and Johnson drove in runs. Scoring runs were Smith, Parker, Olvera and Johnson.

Dakota Stotyn got her fourth win in the circle, going seven innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out four and not issuing a walk.

On Saturday the bats were booming for TJC.

In the first game, a 10-2 six-inning win over Ranger, the Apache Ladies had 11 hits, led by homers from Dixon, Courtnie Heller and Smith. Also, Smith had a double and Dennis had two two-baggers.

Smith had three hits against the Lady Rangers with Dixon, Dodd and Dennis all with two. Olvera also had a single.

Smith had four RBIs and Heller had three. Dennis drove in two runs with Dixon knocking in one.

Abbie Dart (4-1) got the win, going six innings while allowing five hits and two runs while striking out three.

In the contest with Howard the game was tied 1-1 until the Apache Ladies scored three runs four consecutive innings (3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th) in the six-inning 13-4 game.

Smith had another homer with Dodd belting a double.

Dodd, Dennis and Heller each had three hits with Smith and Johnson collecting two each. Aubree Karraker, Frank and Makemson added singles.

Heller had three RBIs with Dodd, Dennis and Smith each driving in two. Olvera, Johnson, Parker and Frank all drove in a run apiece.

Dennis scored four runs while Karraker came home twice. Single runs were from Dodd, Smith, Heller, Olvera, Parker, Makemson and Mackenzye Gregory.

Stotyn (5-0) got the win, going 3.2 innings. She allowed three hits and four runs (1 earned) with two strikeouts. Audrey Pickett pitched the final 2.1 innings, allowing three hits and getting three strikeouts.
