NC FINISHES THE WEEK WITH A SPLIT

CORSICANA, TX- The Navarro College Volleyball team split their weekend conference matches against #15 Tyler Junior College (23-25, 20-25, 19-25) and Coastal Bend College (25-15, 25-19, 20-25, 25-18). 

 

VS #15 TYLER JUNIOR COLLEGE: 

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set   
After a 1-1 start with both the Bulldogs and the Apaches notching off kills, the Apaches took off to a 7-2 lead. NC would take their first time out at 13-7. A kill by freshman outside, Maria Eduarda Dudao, would give the Dawgs the push needed to go on a run of points. Sophomore middle blocker, Wiktoria Warpechowska, would notch in a kill followed by an ace to give the Dawgs a chance within two points of the Apaches at 14-12. The Dawgs would stay within two before an ace by freshman defensive specialist, Lilouann Bechec, would put the Dawgs at 17-16. A tied game at 18-18 would force a timeout by the Apaches. NC would stay within two points before the Apaches closed out set one. 
 
Second Set
Navarro came out with a 4-1 to start. The Apaches would climb their way back and tie up the set at 7-7. A 5-0 run against the Dawgs would give them their first timeout call. The lngest rally of the match came late in the set with freshman outside, Tjasa Malnar, putting the ball away to get the Dawgs in double digit points. NC would go on a 4-0 run to stay in the set. The Apaches took their first timeout at 19-16. A kill by sophomore opposite, Ana Beatriz Nunes Dos Santos, would keep the Dawgs within one piont at 20-21. The Apaches would give one last effort to take the set. 

Third Set
Tyler Junior College started with a 5-3 lead before the Dawgs would tie at 7-7. The ties would continue at 9-9 and NC would stay within two points. Back-to-back kills by Wiktoria Warpechowska and Ana Nunes Dos Santos would help NC late in the set at 19-17. The Apaches would go on to finish the match with an ace.  

 

VS COASTAL BEND COLLEGE: 

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set   
NC took an early lead at 4-2. An ace by Maria Eduarda Dudao kept the Dawgs ahead at 7-3. Another ace mid-set by freshman setter, Eline Fieremans, put the Dawgs at an advantage, 15-8. Another ace by freshman outside, Tjasa Malnar, closed out the set for the Dawgs. 
 
Second Set
Another 4-2 start would help the Dawgs before the Cougars came back to tie at 5-5. They exchanged points until 7-7 before NC went on a 6-2 run. A kill by freshman middle blocker, Nia Mack, put the Dawgs in the homestretch at 21-17. Tjasa Malnar finished the set again for the Dawgs with a solo block on the outside. 

Third Set
The first tie of the set came at 3-3 then NC had a 5-0 run. The Cougars had a couple runs to take the lead at 12-13. NC would come back within one point at 17-18 with a kill by Wiktoria Warpechowska. Coastal Bend College would take the third set on a kill. 

Fourth Set
The Bulldogs started at 3-1 and continued on with a kill by Maria Eduarda Dudao to make the score 10-6. The Cougars called a timeout at 14-11. Another kill and ace combo by Wiktoria Warpechowska kept the Dawgs ahead and able to finish out the match.

Navarro College will play Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas on Thursday, October 21, at 6 PM CST.
