Tough Series Against Panola

Coastal Bend hosted Panola College for a three game series on February 9th and 10th. The Cougars started Christian Garcia for the first game, who held a one and zero record on the season. After a giving up three earn runs off of two hits, in one inning of work, Michael Dinsdale came in and pitched three complete innings with two earn runs. Hayden Borden entered the game and pitched two innings, but surrendered two earned runs off four hits. Garrison Lange also pitched for Coastal Bend recording one strikeout and two hits to go with two earned runs.

The Cougars recorded six hits in the game, but not enough scoring was the down fall. Though, solo homeruns from Josh Burnett and Ruben Sepulveda and a double from Carlos Hernandez were the only bright spots for the Cougars two runs in the game.

Panola went on to win nine to two, beating Coastal Bend for the first game of the series.

The second game was more of the same story for Coastal Bend. The Cougars could not get any run support, for starting pitcher, Sepulveda. Sepulveda pitched five and a third innings allowing two runs off four hits and five strikeouts for his appearance. Marco Becerril entered the game for a only a third of an inning, in which he allowed two hits and two runs with one strikeout. Jacob Williamson made a brief appearance to contain the damage from the Ponies in the sixth inning. Ethan Summers came in to pitch for the Cougars, making quick work for the first two outs, but then allowed three hits and three earned runs before Arnaldo Garcia game in to finish the game with two walks and a strikeout.

The Cougars replicated the same amount of hits as in the first game, with six. Jordan Gochenour, Bo Gonzales and Sepulveda each had an RBI on the game for the only scores of the game, as Coastal Bend would lose ten to three.

For the series finale, the Cougars looked to steal a game and avoid being swept by the Ponies of Panola College. Michael Smith would start things off for Coastal Bend off the bump. Smith faced 23 batters in four innings of work and allowed eight hits and had three walks which were converted to six earned runs. Connor Kimball entered the game in the fifth inning to relieve smith, allowing only two hits for his outing. Mason Foster also made an appearance for the seventh inning, but allowed three earned runs off three hits for his appearance.

Coastal Bend managed six hits during the series finale. Adrian Pena, Tyler Dick and Burnett each recorded single RBI's for the Cougars.

The Cougars ended up losing the game by a score of nine to three. Panola College took the series three games to none, bringing Coastal Bend's record to three and seven on the year.
