It has been a cool, soggy in South Texas but nothing like what the South Suburban College Bulldogs experience in greater Chicago as they took to Joe Hunter Field versus the #9 ranked CBC Cougars for a doubleheader. 

Game 1

Ruben Sepulveda took the mound easily retired the Bulldogs 1-2-3 in the first inning.  Sepulveda then launched a shot over the right center fence scoring Josh Burnett and Jordan Gochenour who started off the inning with consecutive walks to give the Cougars the 3-0 lead.

The SSC batters would finally get to Sepulveda in the top of the 4^th with a solo home run to left field, to close the gap to 3-1.  The Cougars would get that run back and tack on a few more in the bottom of the 4^th.  Mitchell Sexton got the party started with moonshot homer that cleared the Joe Hunter Field scoreboard in left center field.   Joel Rodriguez tagged a shot into left field for a single.  Josh Burnett then got his own shot into left field, but this one would be worth four bases and two runs as he hit a laser over the left field fence for his NJCAA Division III leading 7^th homerun of the season.  Gochenour would again single to left and score on Sepulveda's second extra base hit of the day; a double to the right center gap.  The four Cougar runs would give them a commanding 9-1 lead.

Sepulveda gave up another run in the top of the 5^th inning after a series of base hits by the Bulldogs to make the score 9-2.  The Cougars would end any thoughts of a late inning Bulldog rally, when reigning NJCAA Division III Player of Week Kyler Bumstead would single to start the home half of the inning.  He would score immediately when Rodriguez doubled down the 3^rd base line.  Rodriguez would score the 12^th and final run of the game, when Burnett followed suite with his own 3^rd base line double to end the game 12-2. 

Game 2

Marco Becerril took to the mound for game two and looked uneasy early allowing three Bulldog runs to start the contest.  However, after allowing the first three SSC batters to get on, he was able to get back to back strikeouts to end the inning.

Rodriquez kicked off the home half of the first with walk and scored when Gochenour tripled to right field to cut into the Bulldog lead 3-1.  Becerril found the later innings more to his liking settling down and retiring the Bulldogs with easy over the next few innings. 

The Cougars were still behind on the scoreboard, until the third inning when Cougars offense erupted for three runs on one swing.  Gochenour added his second extra base hit of the game when he deposited a Bulldog fastball over the right center field fence to take a 7-3 lead.

Sepulveda joined the long ball party in the fourth inning with a solo shot to right that went deep in to the South Texas trees to go up 8-3.  Becerril gave up a solo Bulldog home to start the fifth inning and that spelled the end of his day.  Will Lennon came on in relief and allowed another Bulldog run before stopping the bleeding 8-6.  Mason Foster came in to retire SSC and seal Coastal Bend's 13 consecutive win 8-6
