Cougars Bats Come Alive versus Mountaineers

On Tuesday, April 4th Coastal Bend travelled to Kerrville, Tx for an early afternoon matchup with Schreiner University JV. With the Cougars taking the two game series from Saint Edward's University JV the day before, The Cougars looked to improve their 26-13 record with two more games versus Schreiner University JV.

Game One

The Cougars started off the first two innings scoreless, as Pitcher, Michael Dinsdale would do a great job of controlling the game from the hill. During the top off the third inning, Coastal Bend started producing runs. 14 runs to be exact, over the next five innings. Joel Rodriguez recorded four hits that included two doubles during his four plate appearances to collect five rbi's on the game. Jordan Gochenour hit a single and a sacrifice fly out for three rbi's. Ruben Sepulveda crushed a pitch for a home run to go with his two singles and two rbi's. Cedric Mack also collected two rbi's from his single. Carlos Hernandez hit a triple to score two Cougars, Hernandez finished two for two on the game. Cody Lee and Enrique Garcia each hit a double on the day, while teammate Adrian Pena notched in a triple to his stat line.

Dinsdale pitched four complete innings during his outing, allowing only one hit, walking one batter and striking out two Mountaineers. Michael Smith entered the contest for only an inning, but an effective one at that. Smith didn't allow a hit but walked one batter while striking out two others. Hayden Borden came into the game during the bottom half of the sixth inning, allowing two hits, a walk and two strike outs for his outing. For the seventh inning, Arnaldo Garcia came in to relieve Borden. Garcia allowed one hit and one walk while striking out three batters to end the game.

The Cougars would win the ball game by a score of 14-0, beating the Mountaineers.

 

Game Two

The second game of the doubleheader was much like the first.  Colton Getschmann started the game for Coastal Bend in the second game of the doubleheader. Getschmann pitched two shutout innings, allowing one hit, two bases on balls while striking out two batters. The Cougars pounced on the Mountaineer pitching in the top of the second inning with seven runs to start their run parade of 19 runs on the game.

Rodriguez would ring up three rbi's and score two runs while hitting a double in the second game versus Schreiner. Bo Gonzales collected two rbi's from his single and drew two walks. Gonzales also scored two runs. Jason Ingersoll added four hits to his name, scoring twice and bringing in two Cougars for rbi's.  Ingersoll needed a home run to hit for the cycle. Mitchell Sexton hit for a single while adding two runs. Kyler Bumstead recorded a single while also collecting an rbi for the game. Gochenour hit a solo home run along with a single.

The Cougars added plenty of run support for the pitching staff, as the bullpen was able to receive a lot of action. Anthony Munoz pitched one inning of work, allowing three runs to cross the plate two of which counted as earned runs. Munoz walked three Mountaineers and struck out two batters. With a collective effort from Jacob Williamson, Will Lennon, Hayden Borden and Garrison Lange they all helped keep the Mountaineer bats quiet. Ethan Summers would get credited with the win, as he struck out the side in order during his outing.

The Cougars went on to win the ball game by a score of 19-3, beating the Mountaineers. The win improves the Cougar Baseball record to 28-13 on the season.
