Cougars Take Series From #6 Brookhaven

Cougar Head Coach Brian Bauerle knew when he looked at the Preseason NJCAA Division III National Poll and saw his Cougars unranked and their opening opponent Brookhaven College ranked 6th, he was holding classic bulletin board material.  He challenged his team with one word - respect; "This weekend go earn it."  Earn it; they did handling #6 Brookhaven a clean sweep at Home. 

Game One

Coastal Bend struck first, with a quick run to take a 1-0 lead into the second inning. The next two innings, the Bears would take the lead by scoring one run during each of their plate appearances. CBC Second Baseman, JB Trees would hit a rocket over the Brookhaven Left Fielder for a 2 run Home Run. On the insuing at bat for CBC, Centerfielder, Cody Kolb slammed a ball to makie it  back to back Home Runs for the Cougars in the fourth inning while they regained the lead. Coastal Bend's Ace Right Handed Pitcher, Marco Becceril went the distance with no earned runs and six strikeouts for the Cougars. Becerril was very impressive during his first outing for CBC. The Cougars never looked back as they would add to their lead, with another seven runs to beat the Bears, 12-2 in seven innings.

During the seven inning run rule, Kody Kolb and Catcher, Cooper Coe finished the game with two RBI's. JB Trees wrapped up his day with three RBI's, going two for four at the plate with a Walk. Designated Hitter, Kyle McShaffry went three for five, scoring two runs and one RBI. Third Baseman, Bo Gonzales had one RBI on the night along with a Walk. Starting Pitcher, Marco Becerril pitched a gem, going seven strong innings. Becerril had six strikeouts during his outing, allowing only four hits and no earned runs. 

Game Two

The Cougars jumped out to a early two run lead on the Bears. After CBC Pitcher, Ruben Sepulveda Was relieved in the Top of the seventh inning, Brookhaven took the lead from CBC by scoring three runs in the Top of the Eighth inning. Down three to two in the Bottom of the Eighth, The Cougars would score two runs of their own to reclaim the lead. Coastal Bend First Baseman, Joseph Anaya started the two out rally with a Walk. Catcher, Ronnie Bailey came to the plate & hit a liner to Left Field for a Single. Spencer Wallace came up next for CBC as a Pinch Hitter and hit a Double into Left Center Field to collect two RBI's. Closer, Trent Sholders would enter the ball game to shut the door on the Brookhaven Bears to win by a final of 3-4. 
 
CBC Catcher, Ronnie Bailey finished the day going two for four with a Walk and a Home Run. Third Baseman, Bo Gonzales hit a Single to score a Run. Spencer Wallace entered late in the game as a Pinch Hitter. Wallace came up huge for the game winning two RBI Double for CBC. Pitcher Cody Vega was credited with the Win for the Cougars. During his first appearance, Closer, Trent Sholders nabbed his first Save of the season. 
 
Game Three
 
Coastal Bend RHP Bo Gonzales started for the Cougars on the mound. Gonzales pitched for scoreless innings during his outing. The Bears broke up the 0-0 ball game in the fifth inning with two runs. The cougars were able to cut the deficit in half with an rbi from Cooper Coe. During the fifth inning, the Bears racked on two more runs  to take a 4-1 lead. In the bottom of the sixth inning, CBC busted the game open with a six run inning to take the lead. After the 6th inning the game belonged to the Cougars with a three run homer from third baseman Joseph Anaya for some extra insurance in the seventh inning. The Cougars went on to win by a final score of 10-5 to complete the three game sweep.
 
Gonzales picked up the Win for CBC, pitching six innings and striking out six Bears. Centerfielder, Kody Kolb scored one run, while collecting two RBI's on the day. Left Fielder, Kyler Bumstead went two for five at the dish with one RBI. Catcher, Cooper Coe went one for three at the plate with a Walk and RBI for the Cougars. JB Trees hit a two RBI, Double during his first at bat as he entered later in the ball game as a pinch hitter. Third Baseman, Joseph Anaya collected three RBI's with a three run Home Run over the Right Field fence. 
 
Cougars host Wharton County Junior College on Tuesday, January 29th at 3:00 PM for a nine inning ball game.
