Beeville, Tx- On Tuesday, February 5th at Joe Hunter Field, the Laredo Community College Palominos rode into town for a Double Header with the Cougars. Coastal Bend coming off a 3 game losing, looked to get back on track.
For the second game of the double dip, Coastal Bend decided to roll with Right Handed Pitcher, Michael Dinsdale. In the first inning, Dinsdale and the Cougars worked quickly and effectively by retiring the Palominos bats in order. The ball game would remain scoreless until the bottom of the third inning. Centerfielder, Kody Kolb would get the inning started with a Single into shallow Right Field. Second baseman, JB Trees drew a Walk to move Kolb into scoring position. Kyle McShaffry entered the batter's box for CBC and smack a pitch into Right Field for an RBI, scoring Kolb from second base. Trees advanced to third. Next up for the Cougars, Catcher Ronnie Bailey would hit a RBI Groundout, scoring Trees to put CBC up, 2-0. Mcshaffry advanced to second base. Third baseman, Bo Gonzales would bat next for the Cougars. Gonzales hit a laser of a shot over deep Right Center Field for a 2 RBI Home Run to put CBC on top, 4-0. After another hitless inning, Dinsdale would be releived by Luis Martinez. Dinsdale pitched four complete innings, recording three strikouts and allowing no hits during his start. Martinez would pick up right where Dinsdale left as he recorded a hitless inning in the fifth inning for the Cougars, striking out a Palomino batter to end the top half of the inning. During the bottom of the fifth inning, Bailey would hit a Sacrifice RBI flyout to Center Field, scoring Kolb who had reached base off a Single. Right Handed Pitcher, Sterling Craig entered the ball game for the sixth inning. Craig worked swiftly, allowing one hit and recording one strikeout for his inning of production. Following a quick inning by the Cougars in the bottom of the sixth, CBC turned to Relief Pitcher, Mason Foster to close the game out. Leading 5-0, in the top of the seventh inning, Foster was able to end the game with a Save after allowing two earned runs. Foster finished strongly, recording two strikeouts during his outing while getting a Palomino to groundout to wrap up the game. Cougars won by a final score of 5-2.
Michael Dinsdale would get the win for CBC. Bo Gonzales went two for three at the dish, hitting a Single and a Home Run to collect two RBI's. Ronnie Bailey would go one for two on the game, recording two RBI's. Kyle McShaffry scored one run while going one for three at the plate.
The Cougars next set of games will be played at Joe Hunter Field for a three game series against Panola College on Friday, February 8th and Saturday, February 9th. First pitch on Friday is at 3:00 PM
