CBC Baseball Sweeps Panola College

Beeville, Tx-  Due to inclement weather conditions in the Northeastern part of Texas, both Panola College and Coastal Bend College agreed to move the weekend series from Carthage, Tx to Beeville. On Thursday, February 13th, CBC and Panola would begin the three game series with a nine inning ball game.

Left Handed Pitcher, Nolan Cox received the game ball to get things started for CBC on the mound. Panola Pitcher, Trhea Morse and Cox both duked it out as they both keep the batters relatively quiet.  Cox went on to pitch seven complete innings allowing six hits and one earned run with six strikeouts for his outing.

In the Bottom half of the Sixth inning, the Cougars tallied up six runs to lead the Ponies. Heading into the Seventh inning, PC chipped in one run to trim the six run deficit.

Following a scoreless half inning and Eighth inning from both clubs, the Ponies rallied in the Ninth frame. Panola hung up four runs, and looked to tie the ball game up, but not before CBC Closer, Alec Cruz shut the door.

The Cougars won the game, 5-6 as Nolan Cox would earn his second win of the year and Alec Cruz earned his second Save of the season.

Coastal Bend's Eric Martinez was a key driving force with a two-run home run. Catcher, Ronnie Bailey Jr, Left Fielder, JB Trees and Pinch Hitter, Logan Drake each recorded an RBI on the night for CBC. 


On Valentines Day, Friday February 15th, CBC hosted a Double Header to cap off the three game series versus Panola. Coming off The NJCAA National Pitcher of the Week honors, CBC Pitcher, Luis Martinez would start game two on the bump for the Cougars.

Martinez would control the game for Coastal Bend, as he picked up right where he left off from his most recent performance (No Hitter vs WOSC on 2/7/20). The Right Handed Pitcher who recently signed with The University of Incarnate Word tossed a seven inning, two hitter. The Ponies did score one unearned run in the Fourth inning to tie up the game.

The Cougars eventually responded by scoring two runs in the Bottom of the Sixth inning to reclaim the lead. Martinez and company finished out the game, to win game two, 1-3.

Coastal Bend won the series versus Panola College in the first two games, as Martinez allowed three walks and struckout 10 batters for his outing. CBC Designated Hitter, Kane Mendieta collected and RBI off a Single to score Center Fielder, Argelio Guajardo. Catcher,  Ronnie Bailey Jr went two for three on the game, scoring two runs off a Double. 


 In the series finale, Coastal Bend forced the game into extra innings, though they merely won it in the Bottom of the 7th inning. Following a scoreless Eighth inning frame, the Cougars managed to keep the Ponies off the scoreboard in the Ninth inning as well.

In the Bottom half of the Ninth inning, Catcher Ronnie Bailey Jr turned on the jets from First Base and crossed the plate for the game winning run following an Error from Panola. The Cougars won the game by a final score of 5-6.

To lead the scoring for CBC, Right Fielder Klayton Henderson went four of five at the dish, with a Double and two RBI's. Left Fielder, JB Trees went two of three during his at bats, along with a Walk and a Double. Center Fielder, Argelio Guajardo hits a Single for two RBI's during one of his plate appearances for the Cougars. Both infielders, Bret Copeland and Landon Hiltz collected an RBI to their names for the game. 

Relief Pitcher, Hunter Kloesel entered the game to relieve Cobe Reeves after the Fourth Inning. Kloesel finished the game, pitching five complete innings allowing three hits and recording four strikeouts while earning his first win of the season.
