Beeville, TX- Four members of the Coastal Bend College baseball team have been selected to the Texas-New Mexico Junior College All-Star Baseball Game at Dallas Baptist University's baseball field. Coastal Bend Sophomores; Ryan Davenport, Preston Allen, Cobe Reeves and Ian Sexton will all be traveling to Dallas, Tx for the Fall Classic. This marks the sixth consecutive year that the CBC Baseball program has had players participated in the all star game.
The CBC Baseball program has done it again. CBC upped last year's All Star nods by one to five student-athletes that have been selected to represent CBC at the Texas - New Mexico Junior College All Star Game. The All Star Game will take place at Dallas Baptist University in Dallas, TX on September 23rd and 24th.
CBC Right Handed Pitcher, Preston Allen posted a 5-2 record for Coastal Bend, the five wins led all Coastal Bend pitchers and ranked 12th in Region XIV, Allen ranked second on the team with 37 strike outs, and also led the team with a 3.68 earned run average. Coastal Bend's, Preston Allen struck out six batters while only surrendering one hit, one walk and one hit batter in the game one victory for the Cougars in the Super Regional. In a relief appearance, following a rain delay, Allen was able to get the Cougars out of the bases loaded jam with a strikeout earning his second win of the Super Regionals and helping propel the Cougars to the NJCAA World Series. Allen was also named to the NJCAA All American 3rd team for his performance on the mound during the 2021 season.
Coastal Bend College Second Baseman, Ryan Davenport played in 41 games for the Cougars while leading the cougars in batting average at .363 and stolen bases with 18 which also ranked 10th in Region XIV. In game three of the Super Regionals, Davenport smacked a ball into Left Field for a walk-off hit, scoring Copeland from Second base for the game's winning run. Davenport recorded five hits in 10 at bats in CBC's three games at the 2021 NJCAA College World Series. Davenport's performance at the plate boosted him to the World Series all-tournament team.
CBC Left Handed Pitcher, Cobe Reeves made 12 appearances during the 2021 campaign, starting two games and was third on the team with three wins. Reeves pitched 44.1 innings with 28 strike outs and a 5.08 ERA. Reeves was the only Cougar pitcher to record a complete game going lasting seven innings in a 4-3 win against Galveston giving up eight hits, three walks and striking out three to register the win for CBC.
Coastal Bend Pitcher, Ian Sexton becomes the third pitcher from Coastal Bend to receive a nod for the Fall Classic. Sexton made 12 appearances during the 2021 season and earned one win. The transfer from Texas A&M International pitched a total of 35 and two thirds of an inning while averaging 24 strikeouts.
All four student athletes will be in action during Friday, September 24th and Saturday the 25th at Dallas Baptist University- Horner Ballpark.
